The Iron Maidens rattle the roof at McMurphys
I thought I'd seen just about everything when it comes to tribute bands. It seems that every band that's ever had a top 10 hit has a tribute act emulating them these days. But now come tributes with a twist: women impersonating all-male acts. There are several such groups around nowadays, and you can catch one of them Friday night at McMurphy's in Pasadena. That's when the Iron Maidens roll in to raise the roof. If you're an Iron Maiden fan, then Friday the 13th is your lucky day. These five talented women deliver an authentic Iron Maiden show with intensity and flash. They also have the looks and the chops to catch your attention and hold it. Since 2001 they've been rocking houses all over the United States, Europe and Asia. They intersperse theatrical scenes throughout their shows, just to keep things jumping. That comes naturally, since some of these highly trained musicians have learned their skills in musical theater and orchestral work, besides being well versed in rock and blues. This night offers an added bonus, as it's the debut of new guitarist Heather Baker performing as Iron Maiden's Adrienne Smith. In other news, the Maidens recently inked a deal with the Japanese label Powerslave Records; a new disc is set for release in May. John Sollenberger
