Ive noticed on this board and with metal fans in general, one either loves Megadeth- or hates them. I dont get this, I understand the hatred of Mustaines voice- and lets face it, hes a total fucking asshole- but one cannot overlook the musical brilliance of megadeth's first 4 albums. The dude could play some mean guitar- and I think Megadeth's thrash is still the most complicated- technical- yet full of emotion- adventerous and a bit jazzy, and had a great groove( especially with Chris Poland). Anyway, as a huge thrash fan I just cant get over other thrash fans going after Megadeth- I can after Youthanasia- but how can one cant diss the back catalogue?

Yes, its doubtful that any band they really like was as important to the development of thrash as Megadeth was, so their opinion doesn't count anyway!!! To diss a band like Megadeth and then say that Heathen rules or something like that is absurd.

Definitely. But out of the heavy hitters like Anthrax, Sepultura, Metallica, Slayer, and Testament, I don't know how influential Megadeth actually was.

I've always liked them more than Metallica though. Compare Megadeth's Paranoid to 'Lica's Sabbra Cadabra and you'll see what I mean.

They were part of the big four: Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth. Those four bands put thrash on the map essentially, and the fact is, Rust in Peace beats anything that the other bands put out except maybe Reign in Blood and Ride the Lightning.

I love Megadeth - always have done since they released Peace Sells - but I can't help but hate Risk and the godawful World Needs a Hero.

Oh, and I didn't mind Mustaine's vocals at all. I know they're a bit nasaly, but isn't that just the American accent?

I thought Mustaine sounded EXACTLY like one of the Ren+Stimpy characters on "Sweating Bullets" (that was a great show where is it now?).

But I like Megadeth, not as good as early Metallica, or any Anthrax, or even early SLayer but they still put out consistently decent records - I even thought Risk was okay, and the solo to "1000 times goodbye" gives me fuckin goosebumps! Awesome solo. :kickass:

Well as i can say the only 2 thrash albusm for megadeth are Peace Sells and Killing is my buisness, and as to me my fav album is Rust in Peace..Great riffs, great damn lead by Marty Friedman..That all

i love megadeth..i own ummm

Peace Sells..But Who's Buying?
Rust In Peace
So Far,So Good.....So What!
Countdown to Extinction
Youthanasia
Cryptic Writings

:D I like mustaine's voice as well, im probably in a minority there but ah well

I agree with JayKeeley about those 4 bands, they are the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse as far as thrash goes. Used to love Metallica the most, but they faded in my mind and now, overall Megadeth or Slayer rules amongs those 4. One note about them IMO, as far as the bands together with current line-ups ... Slayer is kicking the most ass, still touring and recording with great tunes and a classic line-up.

One good thing that happened to Mustaine is that his singing improved especially on the forgettable World Needs a Hero album. I saw the last and final tour- and I thought he was better than I ever remember him before- I suppose because he wasnt high- but his guitar work was excellent live- and he sang quite well.

I too really like his voice- it somehow works with the music- he sings perfectly with the music- for having so little vocal talent. I cant stand most thrash singers though- Overkill, Forbidden, Death Angel, Vio-Lence- now those are guys that cant sing.
