Melody "stolen" (no offense) from "Mad Onion's 3D Benchmark 2003"

Heya.

First of all: Dont get me wrong, I dont mind when people write songs and accidently find out that the theme they were having in mind is already used. No one is going to re-invent the wheel here. Still, I find it kinda funny, that there are so many melodies used by swedish "melodic death metal" bands, that I know from computer games, movies, other bands.

This time it hit me again: My Negation, Song No. 11 on the new CD Character starts exactly the same way "Mad Onion's 3D Benchmark 2000/01" starts. Man, I was watching that benchmark over and over, just because of the music. I even got my band together and told em that we need a cover the this theme.... When the song started it hit me directly in the face: I know that part. :)
The part thereafter is also a well known part, unfortunately I cant name the origin right now. :Smug:

While I m at it: In Flames have a part that is 100% the same as a main chorus part from the band "Die Ärzte", a popular german indy-punkrock band. There is another In Flames part, that is 100% like a Blind Guardian riffing. I will look the song titles up. ;)
But this is the DT forum, so now I wonder:
Hey DT guys, did you use 3D Benchmark a lot? Any gamers in the band? :headbang:

lol dude, at least my post has content, unlike yours.... why dont ppl just stfu if they got nothing to say?
So, anyone on topic?

Well, there's ripoffs all over the place, just compare the beginnings of Norther's "Dead" and In Flames' "Bullet Ride" and tell me Norther didnt just steal it. Or compare Carcass' "Corporal Jigsaw Quandary" with Children of Bodom's "Bodom Beach Terror"
And the news is: No one cares as long as it's well done

So you guys all heard the Nickelback/Avril Lavigne song?

Indeed, Dead is one of the best songs on the album. :)
Often it's just hard to write a melody that hasn't been played elsewhere...or sometimes you pick things and you don't even notice that it's 1:1 from something else...or sometimes you just downright steal it. Meh.

Actually, I never like Norther ;) Im listening to their albums again now, giving them a last chance ;)

Better listen to Mirror Of Madness then. The debut is too much like a debut usually is and Death Unlimited is pretty different from what I hear...though you might of course like that as well. I haven't listened to it yet, anyway.
Mirror Of Madness is good for its genre.

for the record, i do think the original point of this guy was interesting. sure, everything's been done before. but it's nice to know about it when (or if) it's more evident than usual in a dt song. aside from the slightly childish tone of "i know something you don't know" and "see how i cause a sudden crisis in your system", i find the topic to be both appropriate and stimulating.
what i can rarely come to terms with is how most of those who come to debate instead of praise turn out to be humorless pricks who wouldn't play along if they had been given a magic banjo. so eventually they get flamed and people imagine the regulars here can't take any criticism addressed to their favorite band.

which song of Die Ärzte/In Flames do you mean? tell me about it. and that Blind Guardian song? i'm curious about it.

I think it all has to do with drEaPer remark "melody stolen" he/she is calling
Henriksson, Nicklasson, Jivarp thieves as the music for My Negation is credited
to Them .
Then he/she writes (no offense). If someone called a friend on mine a thief I would take offense as it's a personal attack at them and not a criticism addressed to Them -

I've never seen how people deal with criticisms here, but its just as bad as every where else... damn shame that is.

He didn't want his comments to cause offense... so try not to take offense. He just wanted to let us know that he noticed a rip off.

@la rocque: what you said about beethoven wagner and Mosart doing it all before is Bull shit. They may have had alot of note variations, but notes is not all that makes up music. Texture, Rhythm, timbre, Dynamics... It's all equally important. Plus Mozart composed by a very strict guide line... His stuff was totally tonal and, yes, boring. Beethoven, who was slightly more experimental never had a beat down like white Noise black silence did he? The music is dark and moody in places but it's not the same at all. And wagner? Well yeah I hear he composed feast of burden. And Cannibal corpse got their inspiration for 'Entrails ripped from a virgins cunt' from that immensely fast bit with the wanky harmonics in the middle of his fourth symphony
Some turdy guitarists rip off Bach, Pagannini and Vivaldi, but there's always room for progression in music, and I seriously doubt Mozart, Beethoven or wagner's work can be heard in modern metal.

i imagine that if someone told you "you stole my heart", your reaction wouldn't include a lawsuit for slander.

some words lose their malice in colloquial speech, and the poor guy even put it in quotes to signify he couldn't find a better term.

my two cents: magsec technically was offensive towards the newbie. okay, we know him and we know that he is often faking ghetto language, and therefore has to be joking this time as well. but there's people on several online boards who adopt that register as a type of "netspeak" and they're dead serious, besides dead stupid. so the newbie might have assumed that mags was serious, and i don't blame him (the newbie) for not reading all the remaining threads in order to ascertain whether he was being insulted or not.

@tfh: well, i'm basically waiting for my lunch to finish cooking, and i'm not currently involved in big projects such as, say, saving the world. so forgive me if i occupy my spare time with idle musings on a marginally relevant event.

oh, and fuck you.

i'm sorry, but if "bool shit" is not a giveaway that someone is being funny, i don't really know what is. smilies are so stone age...
