Hello everyone ,

I want to buy one of those amps. But I am not sure , which is better.

Can you help me ? I am playing metal , And I want a really great amp . I am a a bedroom player mostly , but I have a band too , so I am playing in studio , even , in live but rarely...

Thank you very much !!!

5150/6505 since its the cheapest and is the best value IMO. Not to mention its probably been used on more iconic records then the other 2...
Not a fan of single Rectos. If you are gonna get a recto, the way to go is a double or triple.

Thank you very much for your answer... I have already found a triple in a good price... But I scare those 150w in a block of appartments with neighbors... But ok its a good answer... I aggre that with 5150 they have played gods. So to make the question more general lts put the dual and triple in the game...

forget the single recto, dual would be way better, the 5150 is not bad but I prefer the Savage,
fits my style the most, the old Engl Savage is one of my favorite amps of all time.

Ι am trying now to change the single with dual in poll but its impossible... Do you know any way to change it ? Because I want a real poll bettwen peavey and mesa boogie ... I am comfused a long time ...

I voted Savage. In my experience a 5150 II is NOT the iconic 5150 and at the risk of a little flaming, I wouldn't piss on a single recto if it was on fire. The Savage is the better of these 3 particular amps. Had you said 5150, not 5150 II, my vote would have been different.... maybe. I mean hey, the Engl Savage 120 is a mean mother fucker dude.

You mean 5150 is better than the 5150 II ?

I thought that 5150 II is better...

Which was the van allen`s model ?

Wow... ok, look. Everything that has the 5150 stamp on it is the EDDIE VAN HALEN design. However, the original 5150 is a superior amp, especially when tracking guitars for modern hard rock/heavy metal. If you spend a little more time reading this forum, you'll find out why pretty quickly. That said, the newer 5150 III is still pretty bad ass.

i feel the 5150 II is the better live amp though. while it's not as "brutal" as the 5150 I, it has a few features like the footswitchable crunch channel, seperate eqs that really come in handy, plus the higher mid voicing cuts through better in a live environment.
you can't really go wrong with either one, although the 5150 I is indeed *that* tried and true modern metal sound.....hence it's very boring, but YMMV.

check out the engl fireball 100. personally, i prefer it's voicing over the savage. the engls do sound good at lower volumes, record well, and cut through live - unless the other guitarist plays a marshall hehe.....dual recto is a great amp, but imho it shines at recording, not so much in a live setting.

You know ? I have now in my mind to buy the 6505+ combo just to have the sound of 5150 and wait a little bit , until i have the money to buy a dual recto or powerball... I s it right or it is an idiot thought ?

''and cut through live''

Wrong dude, Not In my experience atleast, especially in a 2 guitar player band.
Paired up against my 6505 or Krankenstien my Fireball and Savage r none existant.
They both record very well for me though, single rec a defo no no.

Id personally go for a Krankenstien over a 6505 or Savage.

cash shouldnt be an issue, they seem to be going fairly cheap on Ebay these days i picked mines up for £500 (UK) and ive seen a few sell for around the same.
rediculous! it slays all of the above, lol again this is only my personal opinion, failing that you cant go wrong with a 6505/5150
