Mesa Recording Preamp

Hi there,
has anyone tried the Mesa Recto recording preamp?
If you read the posts at Harmony Central some people really love it, some say it totally sucks. So who has used it?

I love the thing, I was looking at it when I was in the market for a rack pre-amp. The only problem with it is no matter what guitar you put through it it still has that 'he's using a boogie' sound (which I personally think is a bad thing).

Do you use it as a recording preamp or do you play it live through a cab? (or both?)

I tried it though a pair of Yamaha MSP5 studio monitors (the same as I have at home) and through a 100w poweramp and a pair of 1x12 cabs. It sounded exactly the same direct and through the cabs.

It is a good preamp but for the price (over here it's £1300) you can get a second hand triple rectifier head, which sounds a million times better.
