bitrate reencoding

how much space do you save per album with those vbr to 192s?

I don't really know since I haven't added it up, but when you have a 40GB iPod that's constantly filled, forcing you to rotate songs/albums on & off, you tend to pay attention to saving every little bit of space.

Also, like I said (for at least the 3rd time now), I prefer to have all my files at the same size so there's no distortion, fuzziness or changing volume levels. Capece?

Well, I don't mean to be an ass, but by reencoding bitrates and reencoding BETWEEN FORMATS you are quite possibly doing this: introducing distortion and fuzziness. Volume levels has absolutely nothing to do with bitrates or formats whatsoever.

Reencoding from a lossy compressed format to another always, always, always decreases quality. You can go from 96k to 320 = quality decrease.

An album that has been coded from 128kbps -> 192kbps will sound worse then both a 128kbps and a 192kbps in terms of volume and quality.

Edit, nevermind, Erik already explained it.

I'll keep that in mind, though nothing like this has happened on any of the tracks I've done it to.

I had no idea. The whole MP3 thing is not really very familiar to me (since I'm used to only dealing with lossless in the trading world).
