Metal for the Parents

I share metal with my Dad, since he's always been a fan of most kinds of '70s rock. The extreme and otherwise high-tempo metal never really flies with him, but he'll listen to most of the melodic and traditional stuff.

My mom isn't really big into music (and generally has very little curiosity about anything unfamiliar to her), so I haven't bothered showing her my music.

My grandmother's favorite album was Paranoid. But she's dead, and my mom didn't get along with her. So my mom hates that album...

My dad just constantly asks me what things mean to me.

I tried easing my brother into metal once because he occasionally will listen to some metalcore and deathcore. I suggested some At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity to his response, "What the fuck is wrong with you? I believe in God." I don't foresee myself ever trying again, as he completely misses the point of metal no matter how I try to explain it.

LOL

My father just sent me an mp3 of "O Fortuna" from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, and he called it "classical black metal."

Hardly.

I decided to correct him by sending him an Obsidian Gate track.

My dad keeps hinting that he wants to see Agalloch live haha. Too bad they never tour.

It's cool that your mom actually appreciated some of it, Zephyrus.
