METAL FOUNDRY SDX - New metal expansion for superior

No offense, but your "waterboy" avatar has been all over that forum for as long as I can remember, and I frequented that forum for a long time. It's easy to see why you might be "slightly" biased in Toontracks favor.

I own S2.0 and I would be all over this expansion if it sounded great, but those demos are more than dissapointing.

Waterboy has been around here for a long time too and is a straight shooter. I've agreed with his takes on Toontrack's previous products and I'm going to take his word for it. :kickass:

IMO "Made of Iron" is a really solid old school Heavy Metal preset. With a little more tweaking it's gonna be like a fucking gold-mine. But the others, nahhh. I had expected a lot more.

Edit: $179 - eeeks.

I believe these are good drum samples and in the right hands will sound very good but i agree that those demos don't sound very good. Some are ok but others are very bad.Lets not forget this is suppose to be the real thing or else there is the slate drums.

For people like me who isn't too fond of SSD, this is the thing.

Yeah, I was gonna say, it looks like a splash to me, though I guess a bit rounder

Nah, they're literally like a ride with the outside cut off, but normally slightly exaggerated - they're normally about 2.5-4 inches high. They literally just sound like a bell on their own, they 'chime' more than sizzle; personally I don't like them.

I know a couple of guys that put them upside-down on top of their ride, and they sound much better like that to my ears

what don't you like in ssd ? Excepted the cymbals I can't see anything bad from it ?

I find them a bit too mechanical. But do keep in mind that I don't have SSD, I'm judging from the clips I hear, so yeh. Apart from that, it's just my taste. I'd rather stick to dfh and/or real drums.

Edit: And I can't wait to get my hands on metal foundry.

I hate to say that I was really unimpressed with Jocke's (TheDude) clips...Is that what his Axe-FX sounds like? :Puke:

Yeah, don't get one. It's really that bad. I can't get a good sound out of it, there's no good amps, the latency is huge and I had to sell a kidney to get one. Yes, it's THAT expensive.

I'm excited about this release, it's totally unexpected to me. The drums do sound a lot like the samples from DFH Superior 1.0 though. I originall had EZD, then upgraded to Superior 2.0 and I didn't like Superior 2.0 at all at the beginning. Then I got back to Superior 2.0 after a while and did a lot of processing on every individiual microphone and now I like it. I like more of a fat-rock-metal sort of drum sound than a Meshuggah-like sound though.

Well, now you got Thomas kit and a bunch presets , so for the mechanical metal style this expansion is tits and more . Jocke i think i heard that bulls and parade clip on here before ;) maybe with different drums, i cant recall, but on the site the drums sounds great.

I'm definitely not blown away, but eh...I'll buy it.

Anyone else think that DugOut production sounds like St Anger with a better drum mix? (the first two in the playlist)

The POD is the king of the Gayistic Tribe. The AxeFX is only a knight.

Edit > Reminds me of the George of the Jungle soundtrack.

"Pod, Pod, Pod of the jungle
Gay as it can be,
Watch out for the fizz"

Nah, the last 2 lines doesnt rhyme as it does in the george of the jungle soundtrack:lol:

Back to topic, harmony central says metal foundry would be available worldwide from the 1st of july:Saint:

Yep, you might have done that. ;) Whether the mixes are bad or not, it's simply a matter of taste, since all demos on that page is made with the same expansion. "Bullys.." was those drums too with a different preset/mix.

Another thing: there's no processing on the Foundry, except the coloration from the Mic preamps on the 70's Neve desk. No EQ/compressor/whatever. You decide what you want, and the presets are nothing but different EQ/comp settings that you can change. Hate the presets? - remix them. No low end? - add it on the damn EQ. No reverb? - send whatever to one of the 32 outputs and add you favourite reverb plug.

Last thing: with 300 000 samples I can assure you that it's VERY playable. But it doesn't sound like a drum kit with trigger mics on it. You'd be needing something else for that.

It's indeed the Awesome. ;)
