Both I personally do growls/screams as well as yells(like hardcore/punk) and want to learn to sing like power/progressive metal lol

If you want to sing, get lessons. Or practice a lot along to the people that are in your range + get lessons.

definetly get lessons. we have all damaged our voices in the past thinking that projection means to sing louder and scream higher.one of the very best singers i ever met weighed about 6oz and looked like a skeleton, but he could bring up notes from the very depths and throw them across an entire room with little effort. technique is everything.

Check out Melissa Cross' Zen of Screaming DVDs. She's the vocal coach of some of the big names like Lamb of God. The dvd lessons helped our vocalist with both the screaming and clean singing.
