Metallica - Death Magnetic Southy's unimportant rambling

Bought it this afternoon. I'd only heard The Day That Never Comes, managed to avoid the rest of it.

This is an AWESOME album. I love it!

I was in the car with a girl from work a couple of weeks ago and the new song came on the radio, and she said, "Yep, that's Metallica, they have their own sound" and I thought, "Well, if something from Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets came on you wouldn't recognise them" but decided not to say anything.
GOLD

The certainly had their own sound on St Anger.

i have no interest in hearing it.

i just can't give them a go after all this "we're a metal band" / "when did we ever say we were a metal band?" / "oh it's a great time to be a metal band" bullshit they pulled.
PRICELESS!

how come only a fiver !?

It was a kind of Death Magnetic party, and to celebrate them being together so long. To get tickets you had to be a member of one or other of their websites, two tickets max. per card. The idea of the prices was to give it a retro feel. :) It was a touts nightmare because there were no paper tickets - you got to the venue and they swiped your credit card at the gate and that was it. Unless, of course, you were unlucky enough to use a Maestro card, in which case you queued outside for hours to get in! Mark and I were wondering if the price thing was more to do with an agreement between the venue and the band so that they could trial this. It worked brilliantly, the touts must have been so fed up. :headbang:

It'd be fucking mental if they did a concert for a fiver here, bet they played their arses off as always, they have always been a brilliant live band no matter what era of album they were on

OK, listened to the album three times now. Love the first half, but it goes downhill a bit from Cyanide onwards. Hmm. Still great though.

That was basically my first impression but I find I like the last half more (especially The Judas Kiss and My Apocalypse) since listening to it on random instead of album order.

If The Judas Kiss doesn't become a permanent feature of their live sets something is seriously wrong.

I watched the longest day clip and that song bored the crap out of me. Yes I can see that its the best thing they've done in ages and the faster section is probably the first time I've seen them give their old sound a good touch up but I didnt like it much, especially his vocals. Doesn't make me want to listen or seek out their other new tunes, feel free to tell me otherwise.
