METALLICA's official web site has been updated with the following "review" of the band's performance last night (Nov. 15) as the support act for THE ROLLING STONES at SBC Park in San Francisco, California:

"'Welcome to the beginning and the end of the 2005 METALLICA World Tour...' Nothing like a little Ulrich humor to end another great evening here in San Francisco. First and foremost, the crowd was like night and day compared to the Sunday night show and you could definitely tell there were many more METALLICA fans in attendance which seemed to have fueled a completely different setlist.

"Opening again with 'Orion', the first surprise came when the band tore into 'Creeping Death' with the crowd, as always, screaming 'DIE' as loud as they possibly could. 'Wherever I May Roam' followed which got the crowd singing again.

"Another quick band intro came up next before a familiar kick drum got the fists pumping in the air. Rob gave us a short little bass doodle before the band gave us an energetic performance of 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'. Kirk followed with a short guitar solo as an acoustic guitar stand was set up on stage for yet another different song. James gave a soulful performance of 'The Unforgiven' which, again, had many in the crowd singing loudly.

"'Gimme an M... Gimme an E... Gimme a T...' You guessed it... 'Fuel' followed at the same frantic pace that it's been performed at for the past couple years. So, up to this point, every single song had been different from Sunday night, barring 'Orion'. We than moved into familiar territory with great renditions of 'Sad But True', 'Nothing Else Matters', 'Master of Puppets', 'One', and, of course, 'Enter Sandman'. 'Sandman' once again got the crowd on their feet, air guitars ripping, fists and horns in the air, and voices trailing off into the night sky.

"As I said on Sunday, it was great to see the band back on stage once again to show everybody what they've got. They most definitely left an impression, one way or another, on the STONES crowd and, most importantly, gave the rabid fans that traveled from places such as Norway, Calgary, and Chicago that fix that we've all been craving.

"...now, let's get some new tunes coming our way please."

The band will reportedly reconvene after the STONES shows or early in 2006 to begin working on material for their ninth studio album.

I've noticed that the majority of people on this board are "old schoolers" when it comes to Metallica, glad to see at least one person (namely me) has an open mind.

Holy fuck, someone's gotta move out of their parents basement.

James looks like someone you'd see on Power Big Meet (muscle car/rockabilly stuff) in Västerås..just a bit thinner. Maybe Metallica should start playing some rockabilly?

They are both cover versions and not rockabilly at all. There is also a Mercyful Fate cover on the cd, don't forget.

and a Godawful Discharge one as well. Of all the great Discharge songs they could've picked.... shame really.

Oh well

It make me sick to see how some people are so jealous about the sucess of others. Millions of people like Metallica, maybe they're doing some good music if a lot of people like them? If you think they're sellout, dont buy their stuff and dont go to their show. Metallica are a great live act.
When i find that one of the band i like begin to be sellout, i stop to buy there stuff and going to their show. that simple as this.
One of the band i like are now sellout, so i've stop to buy their stuff, going to see their show and i dont have join their fan club. :Smug:

well well, how u doin man? you know what, everybody has the right to run their business as they want.
Is it because they change their sound?
because they cut they hair?
because they do what they want?
because they earn a lot of money?
because there's a corporate managment behind them?

Well, for me Maiden have made the same things, and i say maiden because you're (obviously) a maiden fan. Lot of bands are in the same direction. From your point of view, The Stones are Sell Outs, Anthrax are sell outs, Maiden is a sell out, ....

I also have very clear that they had made things that a lot of people didn't like, like the Napster thing, SKOM movie, but that's what they want to do ... they could not pleased everbody. If you dont like them, well dont listen to their albums, dont buy the cds, dont go to their shows, but respect the people that do enjoy their music.

I am a diehard fan, a member of the club
Cheers

i always thought james should release a solo album. non-metal. shit he was wearing a 4 hoursmen shirt during the making of the black album. i bet he'd make a good old rock classic. he's a good songwriter and a great guitarist. i guess he didn't feel the need to bend his writing ability to your whim and, nobody should. there is about 10 million cds at the music store go find one you like and shut the fuck up.
