If you want to include all that hardcore/screamo stuff, then yes, metal is bigger.

I agree. Metal is way less popular than back in the 80's and about the same that in the 90's. What happened now is just what happened to rap music... it got commercial. I mean just listen to the crap they're making nowadays.

Mp3 and the Net has helped without a doubt but, as an example, here in Chile we recently had the mighty visit of Carcass. They filled a small theater and got advertised for about one month only in the net, some radio shows and some posters on the streets. On the other hand Madonna is coming next month and its programed to be in a soccer stadium, it got advertised for about 6 months now and tickets are already sold out.

Any way I believe we are better off being the black sheep of the industry XD

To cite the already immortal Bruce Dickinson: "There are only two kinds of music! Metal and bullshit."

So, if it's good it's good... whodafuckcaresboutlabelsamirite?

It seems less hardcore to like metal these days.. im sure thanks to a shitload of genres and subgenres like crossover and etc, it has gained a lot more popularity by the mainstream crowd, but im not really sure if it has gotten that much bigger... just more expanded.

Metal is highly supported by us here in the south eastern asia. If u guys saw Global Metal, u knw wat i mean. And those were the only few countries shown supporting metal music. i believe Indonesia have almost a million metal supporters in this decade
