here's the shootout of sm57 and Beyerdynamic m201 on guitar.

smae position and settings, no post-EQ of course

57vs201

I could definitely work with both

fuck...forgot to add the Poll...
just type your answer then

A=m201
B=57

hm, it's smoother than the 57 but I'm not sure how good that is. Yes, it's easier on the ear in this particular comparison but it's also less defined. I guess it would work better than the 57 for some styles, nice.

I really like the lowend of the 201 and the midrange of the 57...fucking perfect combination. (not saying your guesses are right....or wrong...waiting for some more replies and opinions)

Yeah I think
a. m201
b. sm57 because of the more scooped sound.

But I think they would work great together, also for the fredman style, with the sm57 off axis...

I think it is time to do this with an e606 and sm57 too.

Would be very instresting to hear the e606 compared to the m201

I only have a 906...did a comparison a while back (search this forum).
you think B is more scooped? it clearly has more in the 300-3k range, A is definitely more scooped

A=57
B=201 (seems a bit darker than A, which would be consistent with my experiences with the 201)

Have tried the 201 a couple of times on guitar cabs but didn't like it, always preferred a 57 or 906.

ok, I'll reveal this one I think.

as most of you have guessed A is the 201 and B the 57.

I reallly like the aggressive midrange bite the 57 has..the 201 is a bit lacking in that departement.
the 201 sounds bigger and wider though..for solo'd guits I prefer A but I see B winning in a dense mix....
A reminded me more of the depth and biggnes something like the Gojira twoaf has...kinda condensor-like but still with the qualities of a dynamic mic.
I'll certainly combine these mics in the future for some stuff to get a deeper lowend to the 57 flavor or to add midrange to the 201....
I'm definitely glad I found and tried this mic cause I like it better than any other sm57 competition so far (better than 421, 906, royer, 414 etc for my taste). it will not replace the 57 for me (I'm a die hard 57-fan), but I can definitely see it being used for another flavor and/or more 3d in the guitars.

I really like this mic...much better than I expected
