Five years seems like a more appropriate sentence. I think Americans are plenty upset about this case as opposed to the Ray Lewis case, where he plead guilty to obstruction of justice in a murder investigation. No one really cared about that.

He's an absolute wretch-----He tortured, abused, and murdered many dogs for mere pleasure. For a gamble. Although I know you guys like cats BETTER than dogs, are you really THAT indifferent to lives still lost and the torture of innocent and sentient beings?
We base our measure of life on intelligence---- I believe those dogs were smarter than Vick, if given the chance. Pitbulls are rather smart dogs and they say the average dog has the intelligence of a human 4 year old. Vick had it made. He had money, fame, admirers, a great job (I guess..) and was set for retirement and the rest of his fucking life. AND HE RUINED IT. And for what?? To bet, to be a glorified ring leader, to stroke his ego, to kill. Dogs on the other hand, unless mentally unstable, KNOW WHEN THEY HAVE IT MADE. They won't "bite the hand that feeds them" so to speak. They wouldn't be fucking retarded like Vick and and go kill their owners baby for fun, unlike Vick. He not only is a disgusting excuse for a human being, he's of lower intelligence than a dog. I say treat him as such.

You act like Vick is the only well-off person that frequently and regularly engages in criminal activity. I'm sure there are dozens of other players in the NFL alone that also engage in dog fighting (in fact, this is what at least one player that I've seen has said when interviewed on ESPN, but would not name names). Just like the NBA's referee scandal and the MLB's and WWE's steroid and substance abuse scandal, this is just the tip of the iceberg. This type of activity is widespread.
Though to say that a bunch of pitbulls are smarter than Michael Vick is just dumb. Growing up in the culture and environment that he did, with the connections that he had, and the fact that he was a well off man and celebrity, which in this society gives one great leeway and people to hide you, made him much more susceptible to engage in this type of behavior, and I do think that he genuinely regrets having done the things that he did. Does this mean he shouldn't serve any time? No. But should his life be completely ruined for this? I don't think so at all. Not even if he killed somebody. But that's another discussion that we've had one too many times on this forum already.

I agree with Susperia (yes, I love dogs), but I wouldn't necessarily give him the same treatment as he did with the dogs. His career is pretty much ruined, people hate him now, and he's getting a lot of money taken away from him. The punishment is appropriate.

Typical Susperia making assumptions. I actually like cats and dogs equally (I have two dogs and six cats), but hey a lot of the people on this board prefer cats, therefore that same must apply to me, right? I would feel the same way about the Mike Vick case is he had killing dogs, cats, polar bears, wombats, sloths, alligators, puffins or really any other animal. but that really doesn't matter here. Now if we're done accusing me of nor caring about the dogs because more people on the UM Forums prefer cats, we can move on.
No, Mike Vick is not dumber than a dog. He certainly isn't particularly smart man, but lets be reasonable here. What Vick did was horrible and he's getting pretty much was he deserved. Maybe he should go away for a little longer, but the massive amount of money he has lost and is losing is also a pretty severe punishment. I don't know how much he was he is going to lose salary wise, but he's also his very lucrative endorsment deals. Not to mention he has completley destroyed his public image.
Mostly I simply disagree with calling for the sanctioned death of a human being. If he had tortured, killed and kept humans to fight, then I'd probably agree that he should, but that's not what happened. He killed animals. That isn't worth taking a human life.
