MIDI Keyboard Controller

OK, so its about time I got some MIDI connections in my setup. Can anyone recommend a fairly affordable MIDI interface (4 or more in's and out's), and also a good keyboard MIDI controller? I can't play a lot, but obviously it would be good to have something that works well. I'm not fussed about any on board sounds, just want a MIDI or USB output on it. I think eventually I'll get a rackmount Access Virus module or something. Cheers all.

i've got an emu xboard 49key, and it's nice. The only problem is that i get a little bit too much latency. Then again, i am running it through usb. not to get off topic, but would using a midi interface fix the latency somewhat?

How much did you pay for it? What is the response/feel of it like? Cheers for the feedback, I'd also be curious of that latency question. Maybe using an interface, you would have some latency compensation settings? I dunno, maybe you can do that with the USB settings...

Yeah, Novation are probably the best, although they might have more features than what you need.

On a sidenote, I trust MIDI far more than I trust USB, as far as latency goes and just function in general.

Yeah I have a Korg pad kontrol hooked up with usb. Is latency a big issue with usb. I can't get my DFHS midi tracks to sync up with my audio tracks. I cannot figure out how to adjust latency with ASIO drivers. I'm pretty stuck with my situation, right now.:erk: I think I may just need a midi interface.

I have a few midi controllers all in witch I run via midi cables:

Casio (lol it's ok to laugh) synth that I only use for midi cost around $400 back in the day (early 90s)
Yamaha dd-55c
Akai mpd 16 (junk if you go with one of these spend a little more and get a trigger finger or equivalent)

I can't figure it out either...my gf bought me a padkontrol for christmas and I've noticed latency varies from vsti to another, same with hosts ( for example, battery is playable, ezdrummer shows a little latency but the bundled dfh...omg, my computer freezes, sonar does not respond and the latency is something like a 16th late :zombie: )
If you get some real solution for it, please tell me!

Don't you have a latency offset in your DAW somewhere? I know cubase has this feature...

Well they look to be really close except for the massive back-lit panel and a few features. The keys are are the best I felt our of the bigger names.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this! Man, I've tried everything! And I've been to the Cakewalk and toontrack forums many times. I know it's something simple though, you know, just like everything else. It's weird though. I tracked a bass player (audio track) and my drum track(midi) simultaneously, and it plays back perfect!
