Hey guys. I'm new to this board but I've been following it for some time. I've been playing in random bands for about 8 years now and just graduated college and I've decided to get into home recording. The only problem is I have no clue what I'm doing. I just recorded my first song using pod farm and random drum samples I got from this board. Now I want to get a midi controller to put some strings, trumpets, and whatnot to my songs. I'm about to place an order for a maudio oxygen midi controller tomorrow but I'm just wondering if there is other software I need to get. In other words, do I need to purchase plugins to get the sounds that I want? Unfortunately I am on a budget but I'm not too picky about how accurate the patches sound. Right now I'm just wanting to have some fun and then I will worry about how accurate the sound is later. Thanks guys, cheers

The M-Audio might include some plugins on a CD, but I wouldn't count on them too much.

Are you on a PC or Mac? There's a myriad of different kind of free plugins (some fantastic ones too), but in some cases you will need to make a purchase. For example, if you want great trumpet sounds you'll need to shell out some cash.

Check out KVR.com and search for free instrument plugins for your platform.

Yeah I mean, at first I just want to have some fun with it. I mean I have never had an opportunity to put strings or anything to my music. Right now I'm working a crappy job until I start my real one until january. So right now I don't want to sound like a pro, I just want to have some fun with it and experiment. I'm glad there are some free alternatives. Thanks Sopulurn!
