Mikael's theory knowledge

Leper Affinity sounds kind of dissonant, especially that first riff. Basically when the notes don't sound like they go together that well. Inharmonious. And that little part in Bleak is very dissonant. I can't name much else offhand.
Thats because they are tritone chords. They are at the beginning of The Moor as well.

i love tritone chords, its hard to fit them into a riff but when i do it sounds so badass.

and i went to that freakguitar site and looked at those scales. the weird thing is i already had stumbled across almost all of them by fucking around, i just didn't have names for them. just goes to prove that music theory is just an attempt to rationally explain what people just fucked around with.

Yeah tritones are awesome. You get to hear them alot in 'evil sounding' music. haha, they were outlawed back in medieval days, so guys got like hanged and shit for writing music... coz it's 'the devil's interval'.

Oh yeah, for any guitarists out there... play

e|---0-----|
b|---5-----|
g|---------|
d|---------|
a|---------|
E|---------|

then bend the b string down about a step. it should come out sounding pretty cool on your amp :)
