Mike and the cloth on the neck

Somewhere around 1.20 Mike uses a cloth on the neck of his guitar, why? any idea? is it for muting??

It's kind of thing some guitarists use sometimes, though I don't remember what it was called, and what was the effect.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's for muting. Just something handy to stop the open strings from ringing out when doing certain things. If only there were a special sock that would automatically tie itself around the neck whenever I'm doing sweep picking. *sigh*

^ Exactly. I believe a lot of metal guitarists use it in the studio to make the riffs or whatever as clean as possible.

Its for cutting feedback on the guitar when the gain is maxed out.

As said, it mutes the strings not meant to be played.

String dampener.

Basically reduces noise and feedback and makes everything sound clean and tight. If you're ghetto like me, you use a hair tie.
