Mike Portnoy Quite DT

:'( I am so sad by this. I really don't think you can have Dream Theater without Portnoy...They should just take a break. Seriously who wanted to hear a record or see them in concert without Mike. Thats like a DT with John....this sucks.
 
well, last good DT album came out in 2000...now is 10 years they can't give half of the same emotions they've used to give. I think if Mike was really satisfied with what he produced in the band he wouldn't have wanted a break. As for the other members, I think they lack intelectual honesty if they really want to move on without considering Mike needs. To me, they've disappeared long time ago even as performers
 
I think Systematic Chaos was a damn good record.... I am gonna listen to pull me under and cry a little.

saw them on their last tour, sad the sound quality was shit.....and it was hot as fuck out :p, didnt enjoy it, but i saw them headline 4 years ago and it was amazing
 
Would be cool to hear DT with Russel Allen or Ray Alder...then again I'm just about tired of this genre...I rather just listen to Zappa or Rush.

I've never gotten into DT, but this is kind of a shock. I'm not surprised, but somewhat am surprised. But, if he's just going through the motions it's not worth to just keep going in the band and it's time for Mike to do something different. So is DT done or are they going to continue without Mike and get a new drummer?
 
They plan to write/record the new album in January.

My guess for new drummer is Terry Bozzio or Richard Christy...any bets?
 
At least there wont be a court of tuscany pt 2 i guess. i kinda feel sorry for him at the same time though, i heard he got kicked from Storm Corrosion too.

I actually thought that was what would happen, seeing as the last album (3 disc version) had one disc of the whole album without vox. There really isn't any replacement for Portnoy, but a new young singer with mad pipes could potentially have freshened things up. It's Labrie's fault damn it!!:mad:
 
so glad he left. the last DT album was horrid. without portnoy DT will crash and burn. but lol if pornoy goes full time with avenged sevenfold.
 
i think that if someone can fill Portnoy's shoes, he's got nothing to do in dream theater, he better off start his own band.They've been in a downward spiral ever since octavarium and well who the hell would like to be in a band with LaBrie?
 
Never been a fan of Portnoy's drumming. He's quick but that's about it. If they kick LaBrie out and replace them both with competent musicians then I just might buy the next DT album.
