hey guys

as a lot of you know, im in a transitional period where im doing most of my work on my previous system (quard core, win xp, cubase 5, rme fireface 800, central station, adam a7) while learning pro tools on my new system (two xeon 64 bit 8 cores, mac osx 10.6, pro tools 8 hd 3 accell, 192 i/o)

i have both systems setup at the same time, my new system setup to the side of my work area

i need some suggestions on some small and cheap monitors to have setup with my side rig so that when im messing with / learning pt at night, i can actually hear what im doing

i know a lot of you penny pinchers will probably suggest that i just use my current monitoring situation, and although i have thought of that, im not really into the idea of having my left ear recieve more sound than my right ear each night, AND it ties me down to leaving the system setup where its at...

so lets hear your suggestions! thanks!

A mastering guy I work with uses a small set of KRK's for editing work to the side of his main rig with his laptop like you described, they sound pretty clear and take up very little space. Far as I know he plays back his finished masters on them for his clients sometimes too. Seem to do the job very to me

What's your budget for this? You can buy a pair of Adam A5s since you're already familiar with the A7s.

Hey Joey,

The obvious choice is a pair of Dynaudio BM5A Compacts. They went up very favorably against the Opals in one of the rooms I auditioned both sets in.

EDIT: Crap, didn't read the 'cheap' bit. If that's the case just grab some Yammy HS-50s or KRK RP5s (Gen 2).
