mini monitors

I see them often used as a kind of a mono-lo-fi reference speakers. They're pretty brutal, even the frequency range is 90hz-17,000hz. Probably not exactly suitable as the only pair of monitors for mixing :)

Yeah, pretty sure they have that special kind of awful sound which is so useful for referencing

As in they sound pretty awful, so if you can get your mix to sound decent/good on those, then it should be that much better on more proper speakers, etc.

I cant think much better than this. And those 2 worth the price you pay for them.

I can second the choice of the BX5As - as you can see in my sig I've been using them for over a year and love them. Like everything, it takes a bit to learn them and adjust to them, but they are inexpensive and for me work quite well.

Here are the specifications for them:

I was going to suggest the mixcubes as well. They really do help with getting a mix to translate well on the ipods / car stereos of the world. And once you get your new rig tweaked out, you can just set them up as a second set of monitors next to your primaries. If you buy a set of KRK's / Behringers / etc. you'll probably wind up having to ebay them (hassle) or leaving them around somewhere collecting dust. The mixcubes would actually add some pretty decent value.

Just my 2 cents.

I second the Genelec 8020's, or if you want to go totally for aesthetics instead of soundquality, get 6010's

I have them too. Yeah for the price it´s hard to get much better. Of course they are not an Adams but they are small e they have a really good sound.

Oh man, I just love it when Apple fanatics (I'm on my way to become one myself ) buy a pair of white Genelecs for basic computer speakers because they fit their Apple style interior and hook 'em up straight into their MacBook's integrated sound card.

why not. they are pretty good computer speakers!!:loco:

i dont have much money to spend on this...

what do you guys think about these? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MR5/

need something smaller tho, i do believe

For cheap, I'd get the Yamaha HS50M's. I've heard loads of good stuff about them. Haven't listened to them myself, but I have the bigger HS80M's and they're very very nice for the price.

Apparently the HS50M's can sound a lot like NS10's with the +4db midboost they have, so you could use them as a second pair of monitors later in your main setup. I believe James Murphy uses a pair too?

Tannoy Reveal 5a

very accurate, lacking in bass but as marcus has said before, the bass they do have is accurate as opposed to some speakers that overextend the bass response. Recently got myself a pair and loving them

I worked / mix on these for almost 2 years and loved them. Hooked them up to an old receiver with a flat EQ. They're not super portable but you can't beat the price. I mixed the first 2 Martriden albums and the last Cephalic among others on them.

Joey, why don't you just use you old Behringers?
