I originally posted something about this in the rate/mix forum... not the correct place apparently.

I could really use some good ears and some good advice on this mix. I'm not happy with it, but I'm stumped as to what I need to do to make it better.

The song is called "Flawed Existence" and can be found at http://www.soundclick.com/bulletrideproductions

The first version is on there, which I hate, as well as the newest version which was updated with some advice from the other forum that I should bring the drums and bass up.

Of course, any and all advice is greatly appreciated. :worship:

EDIT: I meant to put this in Production Tips. I can't seem to get anything right.

That snare bugs the hell out of me.
I think it will sound good if you pull the snare back abit in the mix, because it kinda "jumps out" in a very unpleasant way.

Yep snare is to loud. Where is the kick? I think I hear it but it sounds like 95% click with no thump.

I just want to clarify, are you guys commenting on "Flawed Existence 3"?

If so... listening again, for the 1000th time, the snare does seem to loud. I have a hard time getting the snare to be heard easily without being just too loud.

Thanks!

dunno about good advice, but i'd start by pulling down the bottom snare mic to take out some of that crack and give it a bit more body. take out some of that click in the kick drum and give it more bottom end. guitars sound real thin, i'm guessing you used impulses??

i'd use quite a bit more p.compression on the guitars as well as p.compression and tube saturation on the kit

I almost asked Notuern if there was too much bottom snare mic.

You guessed right on the impulses. I've been trying to get more mids to them, but I keep getting worse results.

Thank you!

Snare is too loud, agreed. The actual sound of it isn't the most pleasant either.
Turn up the bass aswell. It'll make it all a lot more meaty.

Thanks again to everyone so far.

I uploaded a new version "Flawed Existence 4."

I may have gone overboard following the suggestions.

Damage reports please.

The cymbals are overcompressed and the drums are just a bit too loud.
What I do to cut the snare out in the mix without having too much volume is to cut in the 200-300hz area on the Bass, and if its possible to do so on the guitars without f-ing them up, i do that too.

But now the overall feel is alot better, so you are moving in the right direction.

I felt it was too loud, but figured I'd see if I was heading in the right direction before worrying about it too much. I'm guessing I need to Para Comp just the drums and leave the Cymbals out so they don't get compressed. When I brought the PC bus up, I didn't even think about needing to drop the main drum bus a little bit.

Thanks!
