mixing challenge

Yeah that's my band, a new song we recorded recently. I decided tyo organize a mixing challenge on Gearslutz.

PS : Stef used an old custom guitar (very thick) that a friend made for him. It has a very "thrash metal" cutting tone, but it can't stay tuned more than a few seconds (the tuning was checked every f*****' riff, but it seems it was not enough ...)

here is my mix version.

kinda ruff... but what tha hell

there was alot of leakage from the other drums on the snare drum mick. kinda hard to get a good snare sound. soo i used some snare samples to blend it with.

Yeah we didn't care much of the bleeding, and thas was a mistake. Anyway I love mic+sample sounds for that kind of music, so that's not a problem.

cool man! as i said, its kinda ruff. i did the mix on 40 minutes or so.
i know that i can do it better.

Ronnie, it sounds cool but too much reverb to my ears. The mix seems to be a little too harsh in the highs. Bass drum sounds metaaaaaaaaaaaal lol

Here's my quick attempt from scratch. Need a lot more work (especially the toms) and there's some clicks here and there. There's no sound replacement (I'll try it later) nor automated levels (which are really needed)... Probably too much oomph.That was really fun though.

Hey Burny, great mix !

The guitars/bass sound big. The toms, with a little more EQ work, would sound amazing ! The snare sounds strange like that, interesting
The whole mix sounds just a little too much scooped to me, but that's the way of personal preferences

Ronnie, Burny, what tools did you use to do your mix ?

I used Nuendo, Waves Q, Waves R-comp, C4 and T-racks (yes, I know, not a great idea) on the master Buss...
I'll try to improve it, there's a lot of interesting stuff to do.
The song is cool btw.

the song will be mastered at Cutting Room (Sweden) at the end of may.
If you post your mix, please do not put too much things on the master bus (just a comp or lim is OK).
I think they want to have the mixed song with nothing on the master (maybe a good comp I dunno).
