So ijust picked up a g4 quicksilver rom my friend at a rather silly price, and now i ind out its not reccomeded by digidesign... fair enough despite its rock solid stability it has got no power. fine for tracking and editing at least. but thats not all that great now is it..
yesterday i discovered this though.

now i know this will make my machine unsupported, but does anyone have experience doing this and running pro-tools le?

I say, if you're going to use it for running pro tools... upgrade the shit out of it and use it...

Mac isn't supporting Digidesign software anymore... and neither is Windows... as I found out with the 7.3 upgrade... and some research.

Basically from here on out... PT users are pretty much "use at your own risk" as far as the pro tools software goes.

EDIT: I'm trying to find the articles I read...

no... not quite right

first of all it's not incumbent upon Mac or Windows to "support" any software.... it's up to the software companies to learn the latest changes to the OS and code their updates and upgrades accordingly. Digidesign stays abreast of all OS changes that may affect their products by staying in direct contact with the appropriate deptartments at Apple and Microsoft and works towards staying compatible with both OS's.

Maybe thats what it was... it was something about Apple not working so closely with Digidesign anymore... or something like that... for the life of me I can't find those articles...

trying to understand your question and problem. what exactly did you buy? rom? wuzzat?

Whoopsy, typing with a pt keyboard makes my eyes go funny!!

it was a G4 quicksilver 2002 800mhz (so slow) so i whacked in 1.5 gig of ram to give a kick up the arse, which helped, but it sure aint got enough juice to mix on.
i.e one instance of sansamp swallows 45% of the processor!! eek

this is for Pro tools LE so im definatly gonna need some more power, and was wondering if you wonderful chaps had any experience doing such a thing as upgrading the processor card and using pt le or hd with it? thanks for the replys so far btw! i know i should really save for an intelmac, but i just aint got that sorta money right now, besides upgrading is cheaper, and when i do get my intelmac this'll make a great home/porn machine
