'Sexual Healing' tops lovers' music poll

Death metal, gangsta rap and contemporary Christian were not represented in the top 10 songs British people like to make love to, according to a survey released yesterday.
While the sweet strains of the late drug addict and philanderer Marvin Gaye took positions one (Sexual Healing) and two (Let's Get It On) in the poll of 10,000 lovers, there were revealing surprises. Surprises like Chris De Burgh, whose Lady in Red was at number 10.
Perhaps De Burgh's presence on the songs-of-coitus chart, dominated by the likes of Gaye and Robbie Williams, was due to such sensitive observations as "the highlights in your hair ... catch your eyes".
The closest thing to heavy metal was Ravel's Bolero at number three, a classical masterstroke that must have had more British pulses racing than the spaced-out number nine, All I Need from Air, the French duo who wrote the acclaimed soundtrack to the film The Virgin Suicides.
Ravel and Air were the only left-of-centre choices that turned up in the poll by digital music channel Music Choice.
Its musical director, Simon Bell, pondered the preponderance of male voices. "As eight out of the 10 top songs are by male artists it would appear that men have more seductive voices. Or maybe their female fans are just more dominant in the bedroom - at least when it comes to control of the stereo," Bell said.
