Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus new album discussion.

Wew Here we go again, get up
A little somethin' for your earhole, get up
baring a part of my soul again, get up
Morbid Angel in the house, were droppin' plates

You said it couldn't be done
Told me that it's the kind of battle
That just couldn't be won, you know
You're too sick, too hard, too fucked in the head
You'll never make it, no, not in this lifetime
Well guess again my friend
Don't act suprised
We got the bass drum kick
That will blow out your eyes
Cause when you hear this shit
You'll get to steppin'
Gonna fight the war
And use my music as a weapon

You know I'm talkin' bout Recognition
You know I'm talkin' bout Vindication

Another goddamn slap in the face
Don't wanna give us a place
Are you afraid?

Well fear this,
Cause I'm breakin' through the walls of your nightmare
Wake up time to die
The way I'm livin' there is no compromising it
Better get ready for
Another suprise and it may leave a mark
Beacause I'm coming fast
Plantin' thoughts in your mind
And droppin' plates on your ass

Well here I come
I'm droppin' plates on your ass

Well here I come
I'm droppin' plates on your ass bitch
You never mind and you don't need this
Well here I come
I'm droppin plates on your ass bitch
You never mind and you don't need

Well on your mark, here we go again
Well never mind cause you're not number one
You're too hard and from the other side
I think it's time to bring it home again
Right to me

I do not consider Load a great album, but I don't see the justification for calling IDI a "greater evil". Load is pretty damned homogeneous and I have a hard time sitting through all of it because it gets so repetitive by the end. My first impression of IDI is that it has enough interesting ideas in each song to make it worth hearing out.

Something that has annoyed me for the longest time now is the level of artistic conservatism in extreme metal, so it amuses me that this album has been categorically dismissed by tr00 metalheads without anyone for a second being like "Oh wait, this album isn't what I expected it to be. Maybe I am not actually in a position to judge it." So many of you guys are analogous to religious zealots in that the last thing you want in your realm of experience (in this case musical experience) is something you don't understand.

I think you all should just have a few good drinks/tokes/whatever and try listening to this album again with less assuming ears. I'm not saying it's a great album or anything, but I think there's a little more to it than just "pop trash", and I definitely think it has potential that can be expanded upon.

It's not "tr00 metal conservatism" that causes me to hate this album, I love when bands change their sound up. As was previously mentioned, Ulver, The Kovenant, etc. It's just that this album is honestly, sterile and generic at best, and offensively awful at worst. If having standards makes me akin to a "religious zealot"... so be it I guess.

Well it's obviously offensive to a lot of you, but i'm far from convinced that it's sterile and generic ("generic" is a pretty lol criticism anyway -- remember what genre we're talking about?). Going to give it another listen or two this week to decide for myself.

i dunno what you're talking about man.

"Cause we've been crossing the line since 1989
We're moving the world
Because our power is a shining
Sick groove with fucking magic to prove that
The radicals are here to stay!"

"Our beats down
One step close to the fiery end
Just take another dose of our insane world
It all gets better
Feel next to nothing 'til we drop it again"

i mean, those lyrics are deep. or maybe they're just TOO EXTREME for you?

I see what you did there.

Gave it another listen today. The high points are definitely the more electronic tracks, i.e. Too Extreme, Destructos, Mea Culpa. The guitars on Mea Culpa are fucking disturbing!

Got to admit that the death metal on it is pretty mediocre/fillerish though. I hope these dudes man up and just release a full-blown electronica album that builds upon what they've started here, but i doubt they really have enough novel ideas to pull it off and not half-ass it.

Grant, have you ever checked out Septicflesh? If you are looking for something artistic in modern death metal, they should be right up your alley.

WAIT! How are they going to play the electronic songs live?! It would be fucking hilarious if they hired a DJ!

Listening to this for the first time now. It just sounds like a bunch of completely out of touch guys trying really hard to stay 'relevant'. Oh well.

^you're a little late, bro. i posted that on page 8.

but i think that's hilarious enough to deserve a repost lol. it's downright frightening how well the song fits that video. love the part when Darth comes out and raises his arm right when the song starts yelling "MARCH! MARCH!" LMAO
