Most beutiful moment in prog metal.

Lots of.

I'll put the first coming to my mind: Rediscovery pt 2

Lost evermore the essence of truth, although
she tried in vein to bring us peace, it will
ever rest in our hands
We've cried a thousand tears for all we had,
and all the things we could have been,
we must find our way again, hoooooooooooooow , (and the later instrumental part), how amazing!!!

Ayreon - My House on Mars

"I'll never smell the ocean breeze...
I'll never climb the highest trees...
I'll never feel the burning sun...
I'll never meet my chosen... one."

"No friends in my house on mars.
No foes in my house on mars.
I was born in my house on mars.
I will die in my house on mars..."

EDIT: Actually on that subject, close your eyes, put on headphones and listen to "The Dream Sequencer" song on that album.

Yes!! I love this bit. Especially the massive contrast when the guitars kick in again.

One of my first memories of Symphony X. I haven't listened to V in a while so I think it's time for it to take up residence in my cd player for a bit.

Headphones? I made a suit out of tin foil and a pretend dream sequencer out of a cardboard box with bottle caps as buttons and an old joystick, topped by an aerial made from a wire coathanger...

God I hate the start of that track. It's cheesier than all power metal ever made put together.

edenbridge:
Wings of the Wind right after that struggling instrumental part that ends in compleate bliss, when Sabine sings "The future is worth to believe in..."

symphony x:
The Edge of Forever at the end when he sings "Oh my love, live again".
Shades of Grey
plus a load of other SymX moments...

dream theater:
basically the whole of Scarred

I've said it before and I say it again:
The Accolade's long instrumental part, especially when the piano comes in. This is the best moment in any music, and I'm not a die-hard Symphony X fan.

My second choice is Opeth's Godhead's Lament: "What would they care if I did stay..."

But it's so cruel to mention only two...

Those are both REALLY good choices! The Accolade's melodic polyrhythmic section is so beautiful. My favorite part of Godhead's Lament is "Bearing her pain in the wilderness..." Still Life is such a perfect album.

Dream Theater - The Spirit Carries On
Most beautiful guitar solo AND singing: 2:50 to the end of the song (that girl screaming in the background makes all the difference!)
This song is easily on my top as the most beautiful prog metal song.

:worship: :worship: :worship:

I would have to say, for Symphony X, my 2 favorite moments were in the Accolade II, one after the second chorus, where there's a piano interlude and then Russ comes in with some harmonised vocals... bloody brilliant. Also at the end of the main solo in the same song, where Russ comes in over te last few notes of the solo... ooooh gives me the chills every time! :)
The other would be in their live album performance of Through the Looking Glass, when Allen keeps his voice perfectly in time and tune with the guitar when Romeo does that brilliant extra solo about half way through.

For bands other than Symphony X, first would be the piano > guitar solo from Circus Maximus' "the Prophecy", followed by that bit in Blind Faith by Dream Theater, about halfway through...
"We've got to carry on
Our will, will guide us to
A place where we belong
Know there lies the truth
I am the believer who gives purpose on to you"

I think I seem to be alone in liking the 6 Degrees album. First prog album I ever listened to. Gees, brings back memories...

Oh, and the bass solo from the middle of "Burn the Sun" by Ark.

The solo to Deep Peace.

+1....obscure pick Beelzebub, but I like it!

I think some of the most beautiful parts are the melodies. Here's a few I love.

Camel - Lady Fantasy (Intro)
Ayreon - One Small Step (Chorus)
After Forever - Beautiful Emptiness (Choral Intro)

Wait a second, I have to change my answer... The polyrhythm at the end of Communion and the Oracle.

You aren't, I think it's one of their best albums, if not their best. I&W, yeah thats good but gets a bit annoying when youve heard it a million times. Awake I find too sentimental. Infinity is too little metal and Scenes, well Scenes ive never really liked. And don't get me started on Octavarium.

MASQUERADE 98

- The moment right before the classical solo, the classical solo and the normal solo!!!!!!!

I would concur but I'm not too keen on the Free Willy clip they play at the very beginning of the song. However, everything after that is totally awesome. We were asked for a specific moment as well, so I didn't want to be too vague.
