MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

Try running a disk scan on it. so go to..

my computer > right click on the drive > select properties > select the Tools tab > click on "check now" in error checking.

Select both options so it will attempt to fix all errors, may help you out but may not. It could atleast allow you to get some of the data off the drive then toss the shit thing.

A SMART error means one of 3 things:

-the thing is beyond any repair
-the thing is about to become beyond any repair
-the SMART system is broke and not reading correctly

typically its option 1, and I've never seen option 3, only heard of it. Sometimes you're still able to retrieve data with a 3rd party retrieval tool (being a Hiren's Boot Disc whore, I suggest using one of the many included on that) in the case of option 2. Although, a lot of the data may already be corrupted.

SMART isn't very good at achieving it's goal of detecting errors before they happen and warning you much in advance that your hard drive is about to go to shit. Good ol IBM technology, haha.

Dazed and Cuntfused is one of the worst movies I've ever seen and it's directed by the same jerk who directed.....*see Movies thread

Ken ... might be able to help you recover the data from your old drive if you're interested.

so...are externals THAT much slower than internals? what are the pros/cons ?
Man, not THAT much... They are supposed to work absolutely fine (unless you install OS on it, then it might work a bit slower. It's better to use it as a storage shit).
Just make sure not to buy an intrenal ATA :erk:

Well, ill have music and shit on it that i will be playing from winamp. so i WILL be using it like a regular hard drive, slave. as well as storage for other stuff like pics n shit...that i no longer have,

It still should work fine.
If you really want to get external one and be sure that it won't work slow, - just look in tech passport for USB version, it would better to be 2.0. and higher.
But you also can get and internal one and a USB box for it (it costs about $40 (just make sure they both are SATA)). It might be bigger, but cheaper.

That makes no sense to me but the one Im getting is 2.0 USB..so I should be fine I suppose. I cant see it being that slow anyhow.

Glad I didnt spend too much this weekend cuz now im spending the money that I didnt spend. Gotta love it.

cool ... i have a 250gig version of the same one.

re: the recovery ... spoke with my friend ... he has the software to do this (but its some high end couple of K affair) that he uses for enterprise recoveries ... the shit you pay $1K per incident for... so he wont even make a copy.

otherwise your drive would have to b physically here for him to recover the data.

eh, no problem. I really appreciate you going out of your way to even attempt to help a brotha out. I dont forget that shit nikkuh.

I'm gonna be recovering shit for forever now lol. 186 GB down the drain. Im most pissed about the pics and various documents that arent recoverable at all. The music is no big deal.

I would be devastated if that happened to me. I have a 500 gig internal with all my music, pictures etc on it. 300 gs are music, and I have a lot of obscure stuff downloaded that would be hard to find again.
