I ordered it a couple days ago. It will be here tomorrow! I cant wait!
Has anyone here ever used one of these?

It will be my first 8 channel interface, so im pretty excited!:headbang:

if your using windows xp sp2 or sp3 you're going to have a lot of fun... :puke:

one unit works, lets say, "ok". but if you ever connect a sencond motu to be cascaded via firewire chain, you're truly going to want to kill someone at motu. so as i. because it doesn't work at all at a pc. on a mac it is working perfect...

if you've got a pc, send it back asap to get your money back and buy firestudio or something. this is what i would do.

another drawback is that the motu 8pre only has 2 outputs for monitors, which renders it useless for reamping.

If you get an adat pre, you could use its outputs, but I would suggest picking up a profire 2626 instead if you still can!!!!

I use a 896HD and it has been rock solid with my mac for about 4 years now.

ya, you see, there is the point.

motu is not supporting pcs. all the tech support is doing is blaming windows for its fw dirver issues from sp2. this issues has been removed in sp3. and fw works totally fine in sp3. but motu refuses to work on an appropriate windows driver solution i guess...

btw, i starts off with the disc you'll get with your pre8. the disc or the driver is broken. you'll have to register and download a driver. the drive from the disc is not able to take care of cubase business somehow and cubase cant find the interface. dirver is listed but it wont work with the included driver just with the download version. took me 2 hours to figure that out.

Thru adat...never tried slaving them thru firewire...I used it on a rush ( the second unit wasn't mine) so I went for adat

sometimes the 8pre fucks around when used in single. but i can tell you, it is not able to work cascaded. you will experience cracking like hell because the units lose their khz sync. like every 20seconds.

no working possible.

since there is a general thread on motu.com concerning this behavior for motu interfaces cascaded via fw chain i think this happens to every motu device cascaded via fw on a pc.

In the manual there's something confusing about cascading them...I thought it would be possible, but never tried myself. I saw that thread some time ago, that's one of the reasons I went adat.

When I used it, I didn't had any glitches or bad behaviour...but the truth is, I only used 4 channels of the second unit ( it was for drums, 12 channels)

But yes, I know of many guys having problems with it as interface. I'm planning to get the rme pci card to use it as a standalone converter only, to avoid those possible problems.

I have to say, I'm on a mac, maybe I wrote it badly ( excuse my bad english)
I have the impression you think I use it on a windows machine?

it seems that pci systems are the stable way to record music. i wanted to have a 32 multitrack system for live solutions... which is not possible with the 8pre, so i'm pretty pissed.

one pre8 with an adat connection works fine on a strong pc but fucks around with my think pad (have no idea, can record nothing for hours, but if there is singal coming, it fucks up...). i cant even get close to 32 channels.

so i'm either going to sell the pre8 or us it as a adat converter since it sound pretty good after all.

I second the voices FOR the 8Pre.

- Used one with Windows XP SP2 and 3 for a long time. On the very same machine I could reach half the latency of the Presonus Firepod I owned before
- Since moving to Mac one year ago things went at least as smooth either, of course
- As for the outputs for reamping: the 8Pre HAS four separate outs. If you desire so you can adress the normal TRS outs and the headphone out as separate channels!
- Preamps and converters sound totally ok to my ears. Not just for earsplitting metal, I also did a few classical CDs with it.

Have fun with the unit, all the best!

I got it set up and it is nothing short of amazing. awesome latency. twice as good as what i got with my line 6 ux1. great sound too!!! no probs at all.
