Moving abroad?

My honest-to-god biggest WTF about Australia is the landmass... you know it's about the same size as the continental US? Fucking massive!! Popultion is roughly the same as the state of CA, but there's a fuckton of useless land apparently!

yeah, we should start sending our convicts there----plenty of space ;)

Oh man, last time we played Cologne/Köln (in January with Obscura, Dew-Scented..) I puked so hard but that was rather a reaction to my migraine and the Kölsch (very thin, local beer) than to the city... haha.

Oh boy, I also got busted by a girl on the backstage toilet that night while I was - pants down - about to explode from every pipe available...

Dude, did you play Euroblast? I was helping out with the organization that day. What's your band called. My band is playing the next one.

Back on topic: Cologne / Köln rocks!

Yeah, it was Euroblast. Cool, what a coincidence. I play in "Decision To Defy"...

We had a good time there, too bad I was literally dying by the end of the night. Have fun on the next one! I thought I saw Dagoba on the line-up, too!?

Cool, I remember your bass player. I was only there half the day though.

Yeah Dagoba, TEXTURES, Tessarect, etc. I can't wait. Especially for Textures. It's almost like a rehearsal for us seeing as our rehearsal room is also about 20 meters away from the concert hall.

I'd consider Holland if I were you. I've checked out Holland, Belgium, and parts of Germany. (Going back in September...)

From and outsider's perspective, the Dutch I met seemed very relaxed, courteous, and the overall vibe is very chill most of the time...save for Amsterdam of course lol.

A friend of mine lives in a small city called Nijmegen. Really liked that place. Also checked out Utrecht and Rotterdam.

Heh, I've had a completely different experience with the Dutch  Most of the people I've met have behaved like the stereotypical "proud French guy", all stuck-up and self-righteous, and complaining about everything possible from food to temperature outside. I guess it just depends on luck what kind of people you meet o_O

Haha really!?

Yeah, it depends. They are douchebags everywhere to be honest. This is just my experience from meeting a bunch of locals and friends.

Dude, I left about 400 Euro at the Reeperbahn on only one night last December... it is second-to-none. ;)

You and me both buddy ;)

but to speak of Berlin again quickly ... one of the coolest metal pubs I was ever at is in Berlin. If I remember correctly its called Paul's Metal Eck or something like that. AWESOME place. Forget exactly where in Berlin its at though

That's totally not what I'd expect from the Dutch, either! Bit like J.Davis said, there's douchebags everywhere, unfortunately. I can't believe it's worse than the people inhabiting this shithole, but there's always that vague possibility. Every Dutch person I've ever spoken to has been very, very cool, and had a lot of time and interest in just talking and socialising. Even a guy from Holland on here who I probably royally pissed off when an amp buy went bad was really polite. Seems in England if you back out of anything you just get a ridiculous tyrade of abuse and hate. Anyway... Research and vacations will have to be done, see if there's somewhere I love being.

Thanks for everyone's banter about Germany, it's giving me a very vague idea of what different places are like. I always feel very welcome when going to Wacken Festival, have shared many beers and much headbanging with some really awesome German people. All positive stuff seem to be coming from Hamburg and Cologne. Hamburg really appeals to me, and will most probably be the the first place I strongly look in to.

And Australia has been made to sound like hell on earth  Can't say it ever appealed to me anyway... too hot and too much shit that can kill you!

I have no idea about NZ, short of being aware of their fondness for the word 'bro' & having absolutely hilarious accents, even by Aussie standards.

Yeah I've heard of that chain before. I never realized anyone in the US ever really thought about Oz. There's nothing remarkable here compared to the US, apart from the ability to walk down the street not armed to the teeth and still feel relatively safe (in some areas). I've always thought of this place as a smaller version of the US, except with a shit ton more Asians per capita. From what I understand we overtook you guys in the obesity race, and are now the most obese country on the planet. So perhaps your Outback Steakhouse ads should change to reflect that. Maybe just run a camera through the local supermarket and see how many trunk-arsed, elephants one can count and zoom in to one of them buying a few dozen porterhouses. And then sing the Jenny Craig jingle.

The government is less about corruption and more about ineptitude. We can't really win with any of the political parties here. It's either a party that supports the upper class and increases taxes across the board, or a party that supports the lower classes and in the process destroys all remnants of our economy, treasury savings etc. Most of our core services are privatized. So that means public transport, our largest telecommunications holder, a large amount of the health care system etc. Health care here is shit, which is something I imagine you're used to up your way. Our telephone charges and broadband internet access are ridiculous. My plan costs $70 per month and I'm capped at 40 gigs of downloads during peak times. Another 110gb on offpeak. That's for a whole month, and that's the most generous plan in the country, AFAIK. Traffic is ridiculous at peak times because the city's road infrastructure simply can't handle the population (or should I say immigration?) boom we've had over the last several years. We actually have trams sharing the road with cars on single-lane, main roads. Our trains travel level to the ground, so there are level crossings which stop the flow of traffic every time a train passes. It's all just so inefficient.

I mean, come here for a holiday or something, but don't ever live here. It's just not pleasant. That's about the best way I can put it. I write this now with fucking sweat dripping off my arms because I've been in my room mixing all day and the temperature has spiked, even though we're nearing the end of summer and have already gone through our slew of 40+C degree days... It's just shit man, that's the best way I can put it. The very atmosphere here wants to kill you - this thing isn't meant to be inhabited by humans. Oh, also, good luck getting anywhere here by playing metal. There's no market for it, nor any space to move for local producers, so my #1 goal is to get the hell out of here as soon as humanly possible.

Hahahahaha, wow dude, thanks for the lowdown! I do have to take exception to the "walking down the street armed to the teeth" bit; just because there are a few avid gun owners on these here forums (who are also avid about their rights to own them) doesn't mean a) all Americans are like that or b) the guns are any more necessary than in any other city!

Uh oh Marcus, ya might just have opened the biggest can of worms evar!!!

Haha, well I didn't mean to give offense to the gun owners on here, just to say that you guys (more specifically the concealed gun owners) don't represent everybody in the US!

Hehe, yeah man just busting your balls. Thanks dude...that is good to hear. It's cool...besides I'm familiar with Ermin and many other forum dude's view on the subject, so there shouldn't be a need to go much further into it.

Oh...I'm in the process of cleaning and refinishing my recently acquired Yugoslavian Mauser. I shall post pics when it's finished!

:headbang:
