Multiband Compression

I am sure there are a multitude of threads about this topic already in existence but seeing as how we do not have a search function I feel that it is permissible to post another.

I have been ignorant enough to use a single band compressor Waves c1 in the mastering process and I believe my mp3s have exfoliated my faulty mastering skills through great sacrifices in the dynamic range of my songs. I was wondering what are some more practical approaches to using a multiband compressor in mastering. What bandwidths are ample for heavier compression and such.

3 bands ,dude - do sound that you want! - every time bands are different

But i use

1) <80
2) 80-1k
3) 1k>

Usually one band may be enough...only thing I use MBC for on the 2bus is before the comp/limiter to make sure the low-end doesn't get out of control and throw the compressor off.
