So my mother-in-law was over last week and was perusing the CD shelves. "Do you still listen to all of these?" I said probably not, but every great once in awhile I purge 20 to 30 ignored things just to make room. Every time I do that I think dammit, should've kept those few pieces of crap just for posterity's sake. That being said I really don't fucking miss seeing Coal Chamber amongst these catacombs of Nephren-Ka (pronounced NAD-and-Kian really).

So anyhow, how big is yours? I'm not counting mp3s or CD-Rs because that's gay as shit, but if you want to, sure whatever. I have around 1,600 CDs and 40 pieces of vinyl. It takes up a lot of space, but I like that really. There are also about 20 tapes that lived beyond the '80s, but those don't count. Why? Because tapes sucked then, and they sure as shit suck now.

I'm too drunk to start a poll. Feel free to contribute to this usual form of madness.

I only have 800-900 cds. My collection would have been near yours at the pace I was going in my early-mid twenties. Now that I'm an old goat, I only buy on average 20 cds a year. I havent been to Amoeba in ages either, where as during the dawn of man, I'd be perusing those aisles on a monthly basis.

Hell, I hardly even go to gigs anymore. Think the last one I went to was Fagalloch. With that being said, my tastes havent changed, and I still bump the methull a few hours a day.

i've well and truly lost count but it's easily above 1000 items total, i would guess maybe 1200 at this point

200+ of them are vinyls and about 70 are tapes

I just counted 38 unopened CDs in my pile. I don't think I'm 'gugs just yet, but maybe someday.

I will never buy another CD as long as I live. I don't even have a CD player in my home anymore.

Off topic but I tried this with books too but I don't like it. It's convenient having e-access to a decade worth of medical journals the moment I bought a subscription to the physical version but there's just something about having the real thing in my hand while I'm reading and referencing. I somehow learn better that way.

Carry on.

I don't think I'll ever give up CDs, but I definitely get the appeal of digital only. Certainly not for me, but whatever.

Digital books go against nature and should be stricken from this world. A pox upon them! Thus spake Nadathustra.

Yes, digital books can F off. All three of the bookstores in my town recently shut down (two Barnes & Nobles and one Half Price Books). Ugh.

I have no idea how much music I own. I have bags and bags of CDs, mostly without jewel cases because I couldn't be arsed to pack them properly for moving. My computer says I have 7.26 GB of MP3s. More on my other computer and my external HD.

I also have pretty much music in discs and whatnot, and I still buy even though not as much or often as before because I don't have time to listen as often or much as I used to, but I figure what I DO buy will still be readily available the day I have spare time. And I still buy tapes and cds and everything else I can play. Probably cabout a year since I bought my last tape though.

I have around 1,600 CD's and have sold roughly 600 other CD's on Ebay throughout the years. Recently I have been going through my collection and burning all of my favorite CD's in HQ rips. As I go through them and revisit all of these personal classics, I wonder why the hell we, as hardcore music fans, are constantly seeking the next great band/album like the Holy Grail. I mean I have a SHITLOAD of music at my disposal that could satisfy me for a lifetime but I still seek out that next thrill/high like a crackhead. I guess it's healthier than crack but wtf? Sometimes I wonder why I can't be like my father, who is a big music fan, but has just listened to the same classic rock bands for the past 50 years.

The damn internet making everything so accessible doesn't help anything either.

I should have never sold the ones that I have sold. There usually comes a time every now and again where I look for something or read about something and am like "damn, shoulda never sold it." For instance, I just repurchased the second A Perfect Circle album after being addicted all over again to Mer De Noms for the past week. A certain nostalgia factor plays into it all but mothafuck that is a grand album.

Sorry to disappoint you NAD. Gugs I am not. Although I do indeed have a few unopened CD's on my shelves (not many though) due to the pre-listening downloads selling me on said cd only for me to not even have the decency to unwrap the actual pressed DISC when my initial hard-on turned flacid.

Thirteenth Step is a marvel, one of the best albums from the '00s I've often said. The Noose is absolutely one of the best songs ever, so god damn good.

I think I've sold off or given away about 100 CDs over the years, not very many, but I did eventually repurchase several of those. Halo, Prong, and Nokturnal Mortum, probably a few others. Oh and some Guns n' Roses that I sold in the late '90s because I went through a phase where I hated guitar solos, hahaha! LOSER.

Never had this phase. Seems like I knew a lot of people though who felt that way.

My count is around 900 or so. Had two ex girlfriends now who fucking made always with music. Whores, stealing my Celtic Frost and Danzig and Immortal.

The real mystery is what the fuck happened to my Nokturnal Mortem CDs. I did not sell them and cannot see either of those bints taking them.

It was a very brief window, and I don't remember what caused it. I think I was going through a Sirloin Moment and only listened to indie rock for a few months. :loco:

I'd say if the bints stole Celtic Frost and Danzig, at least they had good taste in music. Some day I'll give Immortal an honest try and see what I can see there.
