there are still a few things in the mix we'd like to have changed, but we simply didn't have time. we're doing a cd release this friday, which will be our singer's last show :(

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION: we welcome any comments you want to make about the overall sound of this, but please understand something; this was our first attempt at recording ourselves in our home studio, there are quite a few things we really wish we'd done better but it was a learning experience for us...we had a friend of ours do the mixing and mastering for us

btw, the guitars you hear are cobra thru splawn 4x12 (left channel) and 5150 thru splawn 4x12 (right channel) and the cleans are a combination of the cobra, peavey valveking, and behringer v-amp pro

bass was recorded with a behringer bass v-amp pro

drums are a gretsch catalina kit with audix i5 on the snare, shure pg52 and shure pg series tom mic on the kick, and some cheapo AT tom mics (one of those 4 for $99 packages bleh)

any/all comments, negative or positive (try to atleast be constructive if you wanna slam us tho :p ) are welcome

I'll tell ya Cobra, I've been listening to snippets of this stuff since you started over on the HCAF board, and this came out really well considering the rough mixes you put up originally. I know what it's like to not know exactly what or how to achieve the goal, and not having the best equipment. They key here is that you can sense how your music sounds and your style very easily. And, on my crappy PC speakers, it doesn't sound bad at all. Better than a TON of demos from bands around here. Work within your means and do the best you can is all you can strive to do.

Good job!

Here's me messing with the eq on it slightly, and then running waves C4 which seems to tighten up the low end on the whole mix, and then the L2 on the mix to compensate for the peaking caused by the eq, and comp. Still think the guitars need a small 1db or so boost, but thats just me

anyone think this sounds better?

That is definitely a step in the right direction. The recording as a whole has this hint of room ambience going on that is killing the intensity for me.

cohbc; sounds pretty damn good now man. Much more aggressive and in your face, sounds like you really cleaned up the bad and enhanced the good. A bit boomy, but that's not really your fault, nice man! :headbang:

some things about that i think sound pretty good

the boominess in the low end and fizziness that i hear in the cymbals is buggin me tho...still, very cool to hear none the less :)

well thats because i'm working on a full already mastered mix, i'd reduce the presence in the cymbals if i had them seperate, so they still sounded similar once the overall presence was increased and i'd reduce the bass and up the guitars a little.

not really an ideal room to track drums in

odd space, eggcrates on the 2 walls and most of the ceiling, wood panels for 1 wall (which was temporary), and kind of a strange open space for the 4th wall
