My drumsound (Pearl/Sabian recorded with 7 mics) opinions, tipps?

Nah, FUCK mic'ing kicks, Felix's is just the exception :D But dude, maybe try putting an eq with a pretty steep hi-pass (at like 800 Hz) on the reverb bus before the reverb plug, that might get rid of the boxiness, cuz I agree I like the reverb as well! And I don't really hear phasing issues, but then again I'm not very used to listening and comparing solo drums, so maybe the problems I hear are a result of phaseyness! :erk: I just know what I like I guess

I like it! Sounds better than my attempt at micing up my kit, also a Pearl Export (not the old exports though, mine is from the newer editions with Mirror Chrome finish and all shit haha, power metuuuuuuuuuuuuuuull!!).

Can you tell us more about the kick? Where did you put the mic, is there any dampening in the kick, what heads, how is the tuning etc etc? :) If I don't sample replace my kick, it usually sounds like ... fuck. Granted, I suck at micing up probably, so I kinda need sample replacement :|

Hey Dude :) I´m glad you like it!! First of all, I never saw a reason to sell my samson 7kit kickdrum mic. I really had the ambition and the money to buy a more expensive more professionell mic for the bassdrum. But I did not because, it works phantastic. I have a hole in my closed bassdrum and there I place the mic, so that the mic is in, and the capsuele is out..just at this border..(it´s so difficult to write in on english, but I hope you understand) I have lots of damping material, blankets, pillows in my Bassdrum. When I record now, It sounds nevertheless bad..that´s the treacherousness. ONLY after using the Equalizer and the noisegates, you can get this sound. And also important: Kick it like you wanna destroy it!!! Sometimes I use compression, sometimes not.

I have here an example of my bassdrum bedded in a finished song. I don´t used any compression for the bassdrum. And nothing is replaced:

The queen in a crystal cloak

It´s maybe a bit different sounding, because the song is from 2007 and I improved my kick sound in the years.

Thanks, Marcus :) I will do it. Today it´s kind of tempting to use replacement, but I will use it only with good conscience, when I finaly reach my personal dreamsound by recording a real drumset..(I feel terrible, cause I used replacement for the snare haha) Wish me luck, dude. And again, thanks for your help!!!

My pleasure dude, good luck, but personally I think your goals are a little reversed; I always replace the kick without hesitation, but I much prefer a natural snare cuz that's where the expressiveness can really come! (cuz the drummer is actually hitting it, whereas with the kick he's just operating a machine, the pedal, that hits it in the same place every time)

Don´t get me wrong, I always prefer a real recorded snare, if I would own a great one. But when I work with a drummer, who is not that good, I would bite in the sour apple and replace elements. What I really wanted to say is, I don´t like it, to replace.
