Here's a new ditty called Pentecostal Snake-Handling Nightmare about playing with snakes in church. I believe this is my first full-length tune I've put on here - the rest have been just bits and pieces and clips.

Metalhead28 was kind enough to program the drums for it, and I hope I didn't destroy what he worked on too much! If I did, let me know what I should tweak to make it better. I kinda already "mastered" it, but I can go back and fix stuff if something is really outta whack.

I gotta pretty thick skin, so let the fur fly! :kickass:

by drums, I'm assuming just the snare, toms, and bass drum? I'd be a bit afraid to crank up any cymbols.

vox: yeah, given my dislike for my own voice, it usually ends up intentionally buried, but I'll compare with some stuff in my collection and see about bringin' em up (we all might be sorry though).

thanks man!

Hey dude.

Yeah, I agree that the drums are pretty buried. (haha...it's not just because I worked on em)
Not necessarily the overheads, just the close mics.

Also, I think the guitars are a bit boomy which sort of throws off the whole thing.

I actually liked the tones better on the original mp3 you sent me. What I sent back with the drums added had the drums a little too loud, which was intentional, but I liked the tone of everything else a little better. All I did was run your mp3 through a limiter to get the level up a bit.

makes perfect sense (I shoulda run it by you first like I said I would, but I got all excited like a little schoolgirl). I started going nuts trying to mimic EQ settings for guitars of bands I dig and I think I got pretty far from where I started! have no fear, I shall fix this all up (but unfortunately, after the holiday weekend).

-I'd crank snare/bass drum/toms a little bit also

-the guitars are really ROCKIN' ! I wouldn't change anything regarding the guitar sound if i were you.

-Your voice sounds more like "spoken word" thing than real singing actually. It can be nice for some parts (and fits well to the style of the song) but throughout the entire song it sounds boring IMO. But the flow is good, so if you find a good singer OR become a good singer yourself you/he should follow the same flow/rythm/lyrics but with a better voice/singing and it would kill.

To me it sounds like "i hear some good singing in my head and i'm not a real singer so i'm gonna record it just to save it and show how the real singer would have to sing but with a better performance of course".

thanks for the tips, and you couldn't be more accurate about the vox. I sorta "give my best shot" for recording (which is seldom), but it's always the weakest link. I never practice, and really, I don't even like "singing" but I've tried to do some instrumentals, and they are even more boring. I was shooting for Devastation's Idolatary or old Kreator (Extreme Aggression) for the vox, but what I hear in my head definitely doesn't come outta my mouth. In the studio with my last band, they wouldn't even let me do the backing vocals I typically did live! I always say I'm never going to do vocals again, but then I get an idea in my head and have to get it down and thus another song with my voice on it emerges.

héhé

i know this cuz' i have the exact same problem :)

Good vocal ideas but quite a shitty performer at now :)

Here are the latest (and hopefully final) versions. I bumped up the levels of the snare and kick, added a little EQ to emphasize them, and attempted to master the track as well. Cleaned up a few things too (I didn't go all Monk on it though), but probably only I would notice 'em.

On the first master trial, the waveforms of the track don't look like a mastered version to me, and there's lots of dips here and there, but it sounds OK. Low end isn't reeled in enough though.

Here's a master with a multiband compressor taming the low end more, and having things pushed more to the max:
