Hey guys, I'm obviously new to this forum, but I've been getting a ton of information off of it that has been helping me out a lot in my effort to record songs. I recorded my first song a while back, and just recently got monitors to mix it. I wanted to get some feedback on it - and hopefully some tips on making it better.

It was recorded in a pretty nice treated movie room with a firestudio project (I know...its crap but hey I'm learning). Guitars ran through a bluetube pre first.

Welcome dude!
I think the guitars need to come up a little bit
lowpass them at 12khz if you already haven't (to cut some of the fizz) and turn 'em up!
Might have to eq some more mids in too
but see how the guitars sound after you lowpass them first

Ok I raised the guitars, applied a low pass at 12khz, and also put a limiter on them at -7db threshhold, which definitely helped.

listen to MIX 2 with the above link

Thanks for letting me know about the low pass. I had been playing around with the eq and could never figure out what frequency all that fizz was coming from!

Any other ideas?

The guitars are sitting at a much better level now and the fizz is gone for the most part
but
they sound too trebly to me
try cutting 8khz or 6khz
just sweep around until you find the frequency that is just over bearing and cut that about 6db or until it sounds good
keep a pretty narrow q/bandwidth on that cut
you don't want to take too big of a chunk out of the highs
haha
if you ever have trouble finding the frequency that fizz is coming from, or any frequency is coming from for that matter
get an extremely narrow eq band, like .5 q, and boost that 12db
now sweep up and down the frequency range until that frequency you're looking for is overbearing (most of the time in a bad way)
and you've found your frequency to cut or boost!
haha
hope that helped
