My JSX + Mesa Stiletto (Traditional) cab impulses!

Quoting myself on this from the other thread:

http://www.esnips.com/

Always worked for me (requires registration, but is otherwise hassle-free). Just put them in a zip or rar file and upload them there. Just remember not to upload to your private folder, otherwise only you will see the upload. (I've done that myself, how embarrassing lol)

And a big THANK YOU for doing those. I'm sure they will rock.

And thanks AGAIN.

My pleasure dude, I've been meaning to give impulse creation a test run, and I'm glad I finally got around to it! EDIT: But as mentioned above, these suck compared to my second batch, so scroll to the top for the link to that!

Got 'em! I'll give them a spin now. (although I am by no means a reference, because I suck badly at anything connected with music ) Thanks x 1000! :)

Jesus Dimi, sounds incredible, I love those whammy flutters! And I don't own the JSX cab, just the Mesa (haha, just a Mesa :heh: ), and here's one for ya - my school's studio has a full PTHD setup with a 192i/o interface and an API A2D preamp - I think I'll try and sign out a couple of hours in there so I can make impulses using that! :D

:notworthy:rock::OMG: That would be awesome!!!!!!

Hey, thank you dude, it was your guide that helped me make 'em! Speaking of which, I was wondering, why 12 sec. for the sine sweep length? Also I used that "MP Transform" option rather than the "Normalize" one; does the manual say what exactly the difference is?

Nice, glad to be usefull :D
About the sweep, 12s is a long value, there is not a particular reason for this... on my various experimentations with deconvolutions, I've discovered that the longer the signal, the more accurate the impulse (without strange "distortion"/peaks on the highest frequencies).
I would try to use a pink noise instead of a sinesweep, cause long sweeps could generate nasty resonances on the lowest frequencies, dued to the room reflections...
Apart from that, using a pink noise, you can easily monitor the frequency response of the cab with a spectrum analyzer on the input channel, to see in realtime what positions have more lows, more highs, what speaker is fizzier and so on...
Just an idea...

Abou the MP Transform:
Voxengo Deconvolver manual said:
MP Transform enables minimum-phase transform that takes place after deconvolution. Sometimes when you capture a non-linear equipment like speakers and amplifiers enabling MP transform will create much more realistic impulses, without pre-echo. This option can be also used with reverbs. In the end, you will get a perfectly timed reverb with zero initial delay and without pre-echo. However, this is not suitable if the left and right channels of the reverb impulse have different initial spike timings.

Oh snap! I gotta check these out when I get home. I have been thinking about getting a Mesa Traditional cab to have both flavors but if these are good enough then I can save some dough :)

Hey, hope they don't disappoint! (and if they do, well, just wait until I get my hands on my school's stuff for another round :heh: ). And on that note, can you link me to a place where I could download a pink noise file that'd be appropriate to use to make impulses, WildHades?

Very "juicy" stuff - as far from disappointing as can be! ;)

Although they invite you to play leads, they also sound very cool for rhythm stuff. short/raw test

Well done, mate, thanks!

PS: I think you can just generate a pink noise file with any length. I know Adobe Audition has that function, perhaps other audio editors also have it. If you can't find a test tone, I can generate a 12s pink noise wave file for you, just let me know what quality you want it (I can do max 24/96).

BTW, Wild Hades, is pink noise much better than white noise and why? I've always thought white noise would be better because it contains an even amount of all possible frequencies. I haven't tried pink noise yet, does it give better results? This is really interesting to dig into! :)
