i'd say the 7str is the way to go. more fun to play and more places to go. i saw an old ibanez 7str acoustic once and had it had better fit/feel i might have gotten it.

strings were always really hard to find for 6-string tuning low; had thought about trying a bass string but never did know what gauge would be best. for a while i used the dean markley jazz packs, but finally did an ernie ball 7str pack had a .58 low string.
