Anselmo is was trash, is trash, and will continue to be trash saying this or not. Who cares?

Well one reason to care is Pantera are one of the more well known bands. It reflects poorly on the metal community to outsiders who don't know what we're about. Hopefully people with half a brain will know he doesn't represent us though. We don't want metal being branded as racist music by SJW's or something absurd like that.

Unfortunately, I have black friends who don't go to shows because of this and the fact that they feel stigmatized at shows for reasons that well exceed micro-aggression. Of course, I have black friends that go to shows as well, but its punk and hardcore, and the culture is different.

Dimebag never did anything like Pride & Glory or Book of Shadows so no, Zakk Wylde is not just an average metal guitar player.

His songs might be more technical than the majority of Dimebag's by some subjective "metric", it's not to say Dimebag couldn't have done something like that however. Dimebag's life was cut short, perhaps later on he could've had a solo career or played in a more progressive band. He had the ability as shown on Cemetery Gates.

Also Zakk is still average pro because I can name at least 20 guitarists who are better imo. I wouldn't put him in a top list. Actually that might make a good thread. List your top 20 guitar players.

Sorry to hear that. My ex-wife who was black went to several thrash shows with me, and there was never any aggression towards her. What kind of shows were these?

However in 2000 like I mentioned I went to Ozzfest and Pantera played. I was with a friend who had a black gf at the time, and racist comments were spouted during the Pantera show (by fans). They left early. That sucked. I probably should have gone with them but I didn't want to miss Ozzy.

Metal shows (death, doom, and the like). Basically, they heard racist comments around them and saw a fair amount of disapproving eyes when they looked around. One of the other friends I mentioned is a woman, and that's a whole other can of worms at a show, in terms of groping and whatnot.

I am arguing that feelings aren't evidence, but whatever. Omni went from her original position to this adolescent 13 year old position that "omg this metal guitarist/band/singer is overrated and I have to bring it up whenever it's mentioned thing."

You sound very upset that I don't like Dimebag. I was making fun of him, but it's obvious that he played below his actual ability on albums beyond Cowboys from Hell. He didn't use his ability, which is what I was talking about. It's like he forgot what he was capable of doing, but know that he didn't literally forget how to play.

Since when? Pretty sure if you ask any number of metal icons they'd be vehemently against it.

Rob Halford spoke against racist immigration laws in Arizona.

Lemmy "I just don't understand racism, I never thought it was an option."

Napalm Death obviously

Bill Steer "None of us have politics that are possible to define in such brief space. Suffice to say that all of us detest sexism, racism and bigotry in general"

Could keep going, but you should do the work yourself.

Just because some bands like Pantera and a lot of the black metal world are racist doesn't mean it should be accepted.

One, metal icons do not speak for metal. In fact, no one really does. Two, Napalm Death were a bunch of fucking Commies. Does that mean metal is against Capitalism or pro-Communism? Racism, pro or con, is part of the metal scene. That is just a given. Take sexism for example. Metal is riddled with misogynistic references, à la the virgin sacrifice or fucking prostitutes, whatever. So, metal is sexist, right? Does that mean metal needs to clean up its act and stop portraying these things in a "positive" light? What about violence in general? I suppose metal needs to stop being so unkind to others. Metal deals with subjects that most do not want to touch, and often approaches them in un-PC ways / alternative ways of thinking. Racism is certainly one of those subjects, as the Pantera and black metal acts you have just cited point out. Thus, racism is certainly a part of metal, as it should be.

"Could keep going, but you should do the work yourself." - this is just classic SJW.

What is trying to be done here is what has been done to the Atheism community by Atheism Plus. SJWs infiltrated, pushed their own agenda, and proceeded to destroy a viable and needed movement by trying to enforce THEIR codes of conduct on others. Some of their most prominent advocates have been "No Platformed" because of some tweet or something they might have said in front of a camera, whether it related to Atheism or not. These people WILL try to conform metal to their morals, and in the process control it in ways a thousand times worse than the PMRC tried to do in the eighties.

So, in other words, we are supposed to care what other people fucking think, and we are supposed to kowtow to SJWs for fear of being branded.

Doesn't sound very metal to me!

I never have even enjoyed a Pantera song, it's just the stupid circular pattern of this forum to talk about how this band is overrated, and it applies to every band that is mainstream. We just saw the Megadeth one like a week ago and i'm sure there's been more since. Such a boring and overplayed topic from people that have been here for years.

You have a point. Still I'm not ok with being associated with racism. Consider it more of a protest against that happening. I do care what people think on that point in the least.

Well, I will, but I was considering a few more stabs to the throat as far as this thread is concerned.

Lemmy.. say it ain't so. I'm sure that's terribly out of context. Probably for a music video shoot where he's playing a nazi as an enemy or something.
