EDIT: wrong thread, may someone be so kind and move it? :/ sry..

Hi,

Im trying to set up a mix at home, but i dont seem to get it really right.
I can upload examples if you need, but imo they lack good bass

I tried all the free amp sims with impulses, lots of line6 stuff and metal amp room.

I live at home so i cannot buy a huge amp and mics and record it like that.

soooo, please share your thoughts !

thanks!

What's the problem with the mix again? I think it sounds pretty tight, if your looking for more low end maybe try the "doubling the bass track and adding some distorion" to it technique. That would help fill out the low end.

Sounds great man! Don't see anything wrong with it...I don't hear anything wrong with it, I mean. Do you pan each track 100%, or did you just use a stereo plug in? Other than that, did you try using the Lepoulin amp sims? This is one of my favorite:

Or try the TSE-X30 an Engl sim

I usually use one for each channel (left/right), with pretty similar settings and the same cab set up. I use LeCab 2 and Gods Cabs and fill out the sounds with room mics, and different mic positions. If you get a good tight tone there is little reason to mix, besides taking out the rumble and the hiss. Also you don't want a bassey guitar tone that will take up too much room in the mix and when the bass is added it will be too much. Try what silvermaples said. Here's a humorous, yet educational video on it:

Hope this info helps you out!

hi!

thanks for all the advice!

I panned the guitars 100% L/R.

I`ve tried the Lepou sims and found it to sound very digital and with no "meat" in the tone (but maybe I used the wrong cabinets..? had some Engl impulses). Sounded great with the rumble, but when i removed it, i kinda thought it sounds weak again. (HP @ 75-90hz).

the TSE-X30 was cool though. But i liked metal amp room more.

I know that video, pretty good mixes that Ola does. He has always great tone, but his bass tone is also very good.

i think the problem is more in my bass tone, which is more rumble and noise than really tight bass that cuts through.
I will try the dual bass techinque.
i just think it sounds balanced, but not fat (listen to The Interbeing or Mnemic to get the idea).

I`ll tweak again... haha
