I have the first cd and not sure if I want to pick up Celestial Entrance now or hold off till I see them live to see if they impress me. First off, I am not the hugest power fan. It usually ends up the vocals that deters me. Sometimes a killer live show will overcome that negative for me. How does this second cd compare to the first?

AS for Redemption, can anyone describe them for me?

thanks:wave:

You need Celestial Entrance for sure... it's a great combination of power and "prog". If they pull off half the shit they do on CE at Progpower you'll walk away a happy man, i'm sure.

Check out the mp3s here and decide for yourself. I'm not the most knowledgable about prog, but I will say I love Redemption, though I can't exactly compare it to anything off hand. The song "Window to Space" is worth the price of the CD.

Regarding Pagan's Mind...if you even remotely like the 1st album...get the 2nd.

I bought them in reverse, and while I'm not disappointed in the 1st album (purchased 2nd), the 2nd definitely shows some growth and confidence.

Worth the price...and I know they'll be worth seeing at PP4.

Hope this helps!...Rock on!

Well, I am waiting for them to wow me at PP... CE just doesn't do it for me. The singer ain't my thang (even without the growly stuff), and the music has a little too much similarity to various other bands. However, I hadn't heard the first one, so my situation is different.

And, like I said--I'm still holding out hope I'll be impressed with them live. It happens once in a while. :)

So, is Redemption a prog or power band? I lean more towards prog.
I have been listening to mp3's glenn. It is just that I wasn't able to hear them at break at work due to only having real player.
The vocals just killed pagan's mind for me on the first cd. I will be the first to admit that I listen to both death/black metal and I listen to power/prog so I can almost handle anytype of vocalist as I consider it a continuation of whatever music is being played. I just have a problem for the most part with the very high screechy vocals of some power metal(jag panzer is a prime example of what I can't stand.) It is wierd as I have grown to love nightwish's vocal style so go figure. :):)

Either way, you will see me watching all the acts giving them a chance and who knows what I will purchase at the show. I just wish the end records would pick up pagan mind's 2nd cd as I don't like how other sites are more expensive.

I just ordered circleIIcircle from the end records and I am excited about that one.

Redemption is dark, heavy progressive metal. It is guitar fronted music as it is the loudest in the mix with the vocals not as up-front as most bands. Nick van Duk (the guitarist) has a very fuzzy tone and plays very good progressions you like you would get from Fates Warning a little bit.
Rick Mythiasin handles the vocals. Rick isn't a technically briliant vocalist, but he can go from a raspy mid-range voice to a high voice seemlessly. When he sings his high vocals on the slower part his voice has almost a child-like quality in it, a bit like Geoff Tate on the Suite Sister Mary song. It works very well for this band as most is quite heavy, but on the softer melodic parts, that style gives them a lot of emotion.
The CD is solid and all of the songs are well written. I highly recommend it.

I have this scary image that I would know I was next to nightwish if during those agonizing few minutes wait prior to nightwish (the band) coming onstage, I would here this person just talking to themselves saying "tight,...tight.... tight" :Spin: :loco:

Ironically, I received both Pagan's Mind..Celestial Entrance, and Redemption (is this their only release?) today. First, I guess I should tell you that right now, I'm into Time Requiem, Adagio, Masterplan, Symphony X(of course).... After only a couple of listens to each, here are some thoughts....Pagan's Mind....not breaking into uncharted territory, but very good, well thought out, and delivered well, and production and recording seems to be top notch.I have not heard their first album, but this album is better than most stuff out nowdays. I agree with another post,if they can play and sound like this recording at PP4, I will very impressed. Redemption...definetely nothing spectacular here. Solid though. Not so much prog, but a little more power orriented to me. But with the likes of Rullo, Zonder and Bernie Versialles(where are John Cyrus and Chuck Profus?) It's hard to dog this effort. Produced by Ray Alder. Recorded in 2000, sounds a little dated to me, however I'm anxious to see them. Anyone know who will be handling the drumkit for them at PP4?

By the way, who am I?....nobody!! Just some thoughts to pass along to you!

But I thought "tight", at least when Nightwish is saying it, is used toward something he doesn't like or disagrees with. So that wouldn't make sense for Nightwish to say "Tight" before Nightwish comes on stage. Because obviously he likes them................................................

Exactly; so "tight" on Rage and Mercenary!!!

Well, gave a short review of Pagan's Mind the other night that was based on a once through of the disc, I stand corrected. This disc...Celestial Entrance......is extremely excellent. Incredible vocals, unbelievable guitar playing, with exceptional solos! Nice keys! And once again, very well done, well thought out and production and recording are of the highest level. One of the best discs of the year so far. Dare I say, in the same league with Time Requiem and Symphony X.I have not heard the first album, but this disc is a must have for any serious prog fan.
