What the fuck is forest metal?

:kickass:

Although Forest metal from a musical standpoint is nonexistent, I think Wyrd may qualify. But it's a silly non-descript tag in reality.What's next-- jungle metal, swamp metal?

The thread title is stupid, but the example he posted makes it pretty easy to give recommendations.

Negură Bunget - OM
Wyrd - Huldrafolk
Altorių Šešėliai - Margi Sakalai

the forest is a place of life and hope, or a rainy melancholic place full of sorrow and despair. examples:

forest : elvenking - heathnreel
dark forest: agalloch - of stone wind and pillor

this interests me alot/ negura bunget is awesome. windir is probably another band to check out.

i'll be checking out Altorių Šešėliai - Margi Sakalai

GR, Altoriu Seseliai (or Altar Shadows in english) is a great black metal band from Lithuania (I believe). definitely worth looking into

Marblebog - Forestheart

It's closer to Autumn Aurora than some of these other choices, but it's really close to Burzum, too.

Also, buy this album, because I know the guy who runs the label, and I'd like to see him be able to release stuff of similar quality.

forest = folk/power metal
dark forest = folk/acoustic, folk/black, etc.

if you like Agalloch's acoustic melancholic parts / aren't just looking for 'metal', check out the neofolk groups Tenhi and October Falls
