Need some input

My feeling...is what some of you have already said...

If Glenn thinks they're worthy enough of a PP slot...just book them...regardless of any tour plans that "may" firm up between now and then...

And I'm not picky about openers, headliners, etc. or any other conditions...

If it's someone you've had your eye on, Glenn, go for it. If you think they're fairly disposable and you can book another band that would be just as "worthy," then scrap the idea and don't look back.

Your fans are pretty hungry for good metal, no matter where it pops up...so I don't think a first-time North American tour would be a big detraction for their PPUSA appearance.

Rock on!

I would say bring them here. Progpower is much more intimate in the terms of a live setting. I would much rather see any band at progpower than the same band at just another venue on a tour or something. If it is Accept, please god bring them. You could always bring Annihilator too... hahah.

Well, you'll be able to tell my thoughts based on past year's:

PP IV - right after it I flew home and went directly from the airport to NYC to see Nightwish again.
PPV - the night before PP V's pre-party, I went to NYC and saw Edguy & Tad Morose, then headed down to Atlanta to see them again.

It is such a treat to see great prog/power bands in the States. Bottom line, if they're really good, I would just book 'em! But what ever you choose will be cool.

(P.S. - Of course, it's great when you can get the bands to do something unique, like specials guests, or perhaps something in their set list.)

Agreed with just about everyone. If you want them at the show, and they are still willing to play even though they're "big time" now, hell ya, put em on the bill. We'd all love to go even more crazy trying to figure out who it is. Can't you see it now? EVERY major band we like that does a full tour of the US next year will be rumored ;)

I think I'm with the consensus here. I'd want to know exactly what 'extensive' is and how long of a set they're going to have. If extensive is the west coast, northeast and a few major cities in between (like Chicago, Houston, Pittsburgh, etc) and/or they're getting a 30-45 min set I say book them. If extensive means hitting pretty much every region of the country (adding places like Atlanta, Denver, Tampa, St Louis, etc) and they're getting an hour or so set I'd explore other options first.

Something else to consider that hasn't been mentioned: Who are they opening for? And would that band appeal to ProgPower people? I would assume so, but you never know, I remember Evergrey being over here with a bunch of death metal bands not too long ago. If the headliner isn't one that would appeal to the ProgPower crowd as much I'd lean towards booking them.

Extensive doesn't mean every state, I'd say book them. A lot of people don't have the financial means to jet or drive all over the country to catch a band play more than once. PP is the only concert I go to every year, anything else I slip into depends on who it is and how much it will decrease my ca$h for PP.

I live in Florida and we get screwed on just about every tour.

Here's another thought. Nevermore was on a tour last year or so with 4-5 other bands. They played under 30 minutes for their set and weren't even the openers. If this mystery band is opening for multiple bands then their set will be considerably shorter than a PP opening slot.

I trust your judgement on this Glenn. Whatever you do your going to have some people happy and some that bitch about it. Whoever this mystery band is, they probably won't come to Tampa anyway. I'm sure if they get booked for PPVI, they will pull out some special treats for all the ProgPower faithful!

I would have to guess that there would be quite a many that might not catch them on this "extensive" tour.

Bottom line.....If you feel they would be a quality addition to the line up and they were so willing to do so I would book them reguardless of whether or not they would headline at PPVI or even if they were doing the same basic set.
I also believe that it would benefit both the band in question as well as all of us that would be there seeing that the atmosphere of PP is quite different than your standard tour for band and fan alike.

Frankly you could dig Liberace up from the grave, call him your headliner and I'd still come. There'll always be 9 other bands to check out and it's a good bet that 2 or 3 of them will blow everyone away and make it all worthwhile. I'm only pissed I have to wait 10 months until PP VI.

I'd agree they should be booked if they're headliners for PPVI, but not if they're an opening act. But I'd also keep in mind that ProgPower attracts an international audience. Even if the band is on a U.S. tour, your international audience may not otherwise have the oportuninty to see them.
So as always the choice is yours :)

-Mtl.

I'd say book the band. I haven't had a good tour swing by my state in quite some time, so ProgPower is my best chance to see good bands. Also, the chance to meet and hang out with the band is greater at ProgPower than a regular tour stop (for the most part).

Hell yea Thor, they missed us by 2 weeks. I almost had my ticket for that show. DAMN FATE. That was my 2nd missed opportunity to see a band that was priest or priest related. The first was the Judas Priest 2001 tour that got cancelled because of Sept. 11. The second was the Halford/PF tour.

I agree with those who say that it depends on where you plan on scheduling the band, Glenn. If it's a band who would get a headlining slot on your show, it would still be cool to see them, as they would be playing a different set from what would probably be a 30-45 minute performance on this upcoming tour. If it's a band that would get a shorter set, I think it would be pointless to have them on the bill, as they would probably play the same set. I couldn't see you making a big deal about this if you weren't considering them as a headliner, so I say go for it. Since it's a band who hasn't toured the States as of yet, it certainly wouldn't be a disappointment if fans were allowed to see them in their hometown as well as at the festival.

Stay metal. Never rust.

First of all... just cuz some band has an opening slot for a US tour, doesn't mean they're 'big time'. Think about how many shows you've seen where the first real opening band (after the local bands play) was really a 'big time' hit? Sheeeeit... saw Children of Bodom and Evergrey open for Iced Earth. In the States, I'd disagree that they are big time hits that would be able to tour the US. BUT.... at ProgPower, both those giants would destroy Earthlink Live. But that's because of the audience. I sure as hell know, that when I first saw COB, I didn't know them. They weren't on my 'to do' list. But once I saw em, HELLZ YEAH! They are giants, but need to PROVE themselves to America.

Heh heh... and less than half a year later, I got to see COB put on another show here, and that crowd came to see THEM. But... I wouldn't have, if I didn't get to see them beforehand!

And yes, I've seen bands from ProgPower outside of Atlanta. Symphony X and Blind Guardian two weeks after PP3, and Evergrey 5 months after PP4. Hell.... if ANYONE from PP5 came up to Detroit, I'd see em again! And again! And... you guessed it... again!

So I say... let the band tour America, let em earn America's respect and interest, and those of us who would be licking our lips at the idea of a full set from em will be getting one helluva treat!

As long as the mystery band isn't Ashlee Simpson.
