ok so my band is called atropos and i dig the name but i'm a bit a worried because there is another band called atropos from poland that has released a few albums. would i be able to get away with having the same name if we were to go somewhere or should i change it?

According to metal-archives there's a few bands with bands with that name so you're bound to get sued by one of them. :p

My ex band was called Painless, now thinking back that is probably one of the most common names ever, especially in the heavy metal genre.

Haha, my friends were in a band called Paragon, and then they changed it to Paragon X later on, ignorant of the Japanese band at the time, even though a simple search would help you figure such a thing out. The band actually didn't suck. I added them to MA.

So yeah...Atropos X?

If you want to slightly bastardise the name while preserving the essence of it, you could do Atrophos, Atropis, etc. (assuming those aren't taken)

Just go with something straightforward, like Flaming Babies. :V

No, seriously though, vihris' suggestion is good, IMO. Just bastardize it somewhat until it can stand on it's own.
