I have a giant Pearl Masters kit that sounds amazing, but I am looking to get another in-house kit. Price isn't a concern, but I'm not trying to rival Neil Peart either in size. I am and always have been a guitar nerd, so I'm looking for some advice from more skin oriented Sneapsters.

The 5150 is the amp heard around the world....so what would the 5150 of drums be?

This will be studio use only. No live gigs.

Tama Starclassic. Preferably birch. Consistently great kits with great hardware, and they constantly outperform other brands' kits in my studio.

I've also had great results with C+C's stuff, excellent quality.

I have a fairly simple Yamaha Birch Custom. It was like 1000.00 for shells and birch snare. With new skins these things actual sound really decent. Definitely the best sounding "low cost" kit i've run across. Of course you said budget aside so i'm sure you will go with something more expensive. I've never heard them, but i imagine a set of yamaha recording customs would be pretty sick ass :)
