Looking for a tiny drum set

Just buy an electric kit.

Tiny kits sound just that... tiny. An electric kit would sound much better, be much quieter, and you can use it to trigger your favorite drum VSTi program for recording.

On a serious note, does it have to be an acoustic kit? I think your only option if you don't have an isolated room is an e-kit.

hahaha that little thing looks awesome! but yea guys, I already have an e-kit, and its not really a great one. I'd love to get one of those nice roland ones, but i just can't afford anything over $1000 right now. and it seems like any e-kit under a grand just sucks. I know the kit won't sound great, but I won't be using it for recording since this is just for home practice use and I already have a nice big set that I record with. So i guess what I'm really looking to find out is if anyone has experience with these small sets and could suggest one that "sounds the least bad" for under a grand.

I need this for my son...

otherwise I'm gonna have to get him one of these

Major GAS all of a sudden.

A friend of mine has a Gretsch Catalina Club and he's pretty happy with it. In my experience, mahogany shells tend to be quieter than maple or birch so maybe that's up your alley.
It's still going to generate some good spl amounts tho.

A small kit is still going to be loud, it will just be smaller. I've got a Gretsch Catalina MiniMod kit that's kinda small.

The Pearl Rhythm Traveler is a tiny thing

If you're willing to go used, there's plenty of good kits under a grand. You could probably find a TD-8 kit for about that with all mesh pads.
