I've got all of my CDs ripped to MP3 on my PC. Eventually, I will rip them all to lossless (.wav or .ogg) when I set up my file server. I've got an S/PDIF output to my stereo and it works fine. However, I can't run a digital audio cable upstairs to the stereo up there. So I'd like to use wireless to get my audio up there. I've been checking around and most of what I've found offers WAY more than I want. I'm looking for a device (pair of devices actually) that will take digital output from my PC and transmit it via wireless to a similar device at my upstairs receiver, and output it to digital out that I can plug in there. I don't need any display on it, or a remote to control it. I just want to transfer the data. A solution that would also transfer the video would be cool too, but not essential.

Anybody hear of anything like this? BTW, I don't use iTunes, so that Apple solution won't work.

Your file server should be the only thing needed to transmit it over a wireless network. Unless you have no wireless router. In which case I'd say get a wireless router.

You could try a Zune HD maybe. It should be able to access the files you share on a home network.

There's also something like the Squeezebox.

A basic netbook would also probably work.

That's exactly what we got at work. All of our music is controlled via the Squeezebox. Neat little toy if you ask me.

I guess I didn't mention that I don't want to spend $300 to do this.

I don't need anything to control it, I can do that from my PC.

Ok. So how do it receive it at the other end, and input it into my receiver there? I could do it with the Zune or the Squeezebox, but again, those are WAY more than what I think I should need. I don't want a bunch of bells and whistles. I just want something basic.

If your stereo receiver has an ethernet port on it, you could use this to network it in to your system from any other room in the house: http://www.slingbox.com/go/slt

It basically uses your house's wiring as part of your network, and it's how I listen to music stored on my computer on my main sound system on the other side of the house. Plus, it's relatively cheap.

Nope. It doesn't have an ethernet port. Besides, I'm using power lines to control lights, so I don't think I could do both on the powerline.
