Does anybodu inhere know what kind of distortion Jeff Loomis of Nevermore uses? Or how to ceate or were to download a patch fot it for a Boss GT6?

Cheers and thanks, Koen

last 3 albums were pretty much all mesa boogie rectifier boosted with a tubescreamer, except for TGE which also has a krank revolution mixed in.

as for the gt6 thing...good luck :D :D :D

Will be difficult with a gt-6, I can't get a perfect one with a POD XT, but try tuning to Jeff Loomis tuning and experimenting with the rectifier simulation of gt-6's preamp section

Yea ... your not gonna be able to even come close with a GT-6 The Pod XT comes Close, but still isnt even in the ballpark. Only way your gonna nail that tone is with a Mesa Recto, a TS, A Schecter with 707s, and Be Jeff Loomis :D

If you could manage the last one (or steve smyth for that matter he's just as good as jeff in my opinion and great variety. Harmonized leads ) then you could play through a tree trunk and sound awesome.

I think Steve is even better than Jeff, recently Jeff is not doing the great solos he did in the past, seems like patterns, think about the solo in the final product at 3:00, a lick repeated as a loop.
I miss the great solos a la engines of hate.
Steve is doing a great work in nevermore, I like much better his soloing

steve definitely can kick some serious amount of ass. i still think tim calvert was a better match with jeff when it came to leads, but steve is doing well. i'm not really into the bittersweet feast whammy pedal thing, but i LOVE the leads for sell my heart for stones, and i'm surprised how well...uncreative jeff was for the psalm of lydia solo. i prefered steve's stuff for PoL, and i think jeff is way better than that.
i do by no means try to put jeff down in any way, he's GREAT. actually he's my favourite guitar player right now, esp. seeing how young he is, he's got a lot of potential imho. as kickass as the songs on TGE are, his leads sometimes feel uninspired to me. i disagree on the final product lead, though. sure, it's not exactly the most creative phrasing, but it fits the song. perfectly.

regarding rhythm playing....i like steve's aggression. he's beating the crap out of the strings, and on top of that has a kickass stage presence. this guy can cover a whole stage alone imho. i still prefer jeff's songs, mainly because there's more of a theme that's continuing through the individual songs. born for example has a few really cool ideas that re-appear at exactly the right places imho, which keeps it very interesting. on the other hand, steve's writing some crazy stuff. jeff can do this, too (TGE title track anyone?!), but come on, the riffs in bittersweet feast kick incredible amount of ass. i like the way he's starting off with an easy octave melody, and then kicks in with the super heavy verse and pre chorus riffs, just to resolve into the chordal chorus dominated by insane drumming. this, folks, is REAL songwriting.
and btw, sell my heart for stones is nevermore's second best ballad, only topped by dreaming neon black. IMHO

so i just wrote a whole novel....now guess what's my favourite band :D :D :D

(Topic Discussion) Loomis's site has his equipment listed on it, but I doubt it's been updated in a long time. I know he and Steve are endorsed by Digitech effects pedals. Other than that, his site lists PEavy Tripple XXX heads/cabinets, and Line 6 Pod Pro. As for guitars, he used to play a 7 string ESP, now he's with the Schecter, but if your going for the sound, then all you really need to worry about are the Pickups, Active EMGs, 81 in the bridge, 85 in the neck, the standard Metal God pickup setup.

(Guitarist Discussion) I'm really happy that Steve is with them now as a full Member (hopefully they keep him around unlike past guitarists). The first time I saw Nevermore play live was on the Dimmu tour in 03, and Steve was up on stage with them. The work on TGE is outstanding from both guitarists, I think Jeff might have fell a bit on Enemies, and Steve was a good influence to get Jeff to step back up. Psalm of Lydia... just the idea of the 2 of them going back and forth in a dualing solo is fucking amazing.

As for the guy with the Final Product solo comments... listen to the solo in This Sacrament... same style. Sure its mostly repeating the same riff, but god damn does it kick ass.

Yes guys, that patterns kick major ass, but I prefer a lead instead of a lick repeated.
Jeff is still one of my favorite guitar hero (at the first position there's Marty Friedman), but I was just thinking about how good is having steve in the band for them.

Your right, having Steve in the writing process probably made Jeff feel like he was in competition, causing him to write some better stuff. Haha, the thought that this guy can take a riff, and play it fast enough to consider it a solo... amazing.

Also, I cant say that either one of the two can play better than the other.

i beg to differ on the gt-6 you would be suprised at the tones you can get from it:grin:

In regards to the pattern thing, i think that Jeff knows how to write good patterned solos. River dragon, this sacrament, final product all have patterns, but they kick ass. my favorite patternish solo that jeff does is actually that 2-bar sweeping section in the solo for born. Holy jesus its awsome.

I have to say, i dont see why theres all this doubting of a gt-6's ability! I own a gt-6 and personally i think theyre brilliant, if you sit down with it you can probably make all the tones the xt can do

I dunno ... the Xt is cut and dry ... I love the sounds of the digitech 2101 too but you need a Doctorate in Rocket Science to use it.

As far as Steve i do like him better then jeff also.

As for the tone on the new CD it was definitely Schecter with 707's 94 Mesa Recto and a Krank Into a V30 loaded Cab. Most likely knowing andy with the Audix.
