Nevermore US setlist?

I'm not sure I follow your logic. Playing less songs will make them more popular? The more tracks they play, the greater the chance that someone will hear something they like, and buy one of their CDs. That said, how many people listen to Opeth haven't heard Nevermore?

...Here's how the average brain works... when it hears something that's new, it's attention span is reduced to that of a five years old... don't give me crap about exceptions, people at shows are dumb and that's a fact. However, when you see a new band or one you haven't heard yet... you see them give a 30 minutes KICKASS setlist and put on a very energetic show, you have no chance whatsoever of getting bored halfway through the set. Anyways, I'm very active in my local scene and I know how things happen here... Nevermore opened for Dimmu a couple of years ago and people Hated them because warrel was out of shape and sang off key without energy and bla bla... They returned at gigantour and kick everyone in the hall right in the gonads with their 25 minutes set and believe me... people actually said Nevermore stole the show!

I don't necessarily disagree with you. However, just because someone isn't giving the band their undecided attention after minute 30, doesn't mean they won't hear a song at minute 46 and think to themselves, "Wow, this kicks ass.".

The difference, as you rightly pointed out, between their set opening for Dimmu and opening Gigantour, had less to do with set length and more to do with the band's intensity.

All that said, I find it strange that on a three band bill, the 2nd band isn't being given AT LEAST 45 minutes. That just seems strange to me. If there's only 30 minutes for each of the two opening bands, than why have two opening bands? It's not like Into Eternity is going to draw anyone to this show that wouldn't have gone anyway. Those guys have been on every single tour that's rolled through the east coast for the last 18 months. And as much as I dig IE's studio output, they just blow live.

Real setlist:

Born
Acid Words
Bittersweet Feast
Seven Tounges of God
This Godless Endeavor

During Gigantour they rotated songs, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do that on the Opeth tour.

If that's supposed to be the setlist from last night in Chicago you're a bit off, they played River Dragon Has Come instead of Seven Tongues of God.

I believe the reason they only played 5 songs here in Chicago was the "All Ages" show. The show was over around 9:30pm. They had no choice to play that short because the headliner got the one and a half hour time slot. It prolly doesnt help that most of Opeth's songs are 10 minutes each.

You can have'em. I've seen them live three times, and they sucked every time. Keep in mind, I love thier last two CDs. Hopefully they'll be good this time around, but I doubt it. Their new singer is awful.

Oh, sorry, that's right, I was putting it down from memory and I've been getting those two confused on setlists ever since Gigantour's setlists came out.

Back in Gigantour, they always played one or the other, and I just kinda got them mixed up in my head.

Right after TGE. Warrel said that they were going to play something off TGE again, something more upbeat. My friend yelled out "Sentient 6!", and Warrel replied with "No, no, no! That song is too boring!" and gave us a smile and told us he was joking.
