Mostly unremarkable setlist, but hey. they're playing Food For the Gods instead of The Hive. Good for them.

Flew in to see the boys tonight. Some notes:

- Setlist was mainly comprised of their '00s and '10s material. Food for the Gods was their only 90's song. Bullet Ride, Cloud Connected, The Quiet Place, Take This Life, Mirror's Truth, Alias, and Delight and Angers were their '00's songs. No Battles in sight.

- They played In the Dark for the first time ever.

- Of the five In Flames shows I've seen, this was, performance-wise, the best. I don't think it's close, either. The songs had a ton of energy, the crowd was insane, etc. The Foregone songs translate very well live. Anders was actually great, a huge step up from the last time I saw him in 2022. Hearing him actually nail the cleans on Paralyzed shocked me. Maybe he was just having a good night, but imo I've never heard him sound better (aside from forgetting the lyrics to some songs here and there). Bootleg videos may contradict me here, but I'm just going off what I could hear.

- Personal highlights were Foregone Pt. 1 and Paralyzed. Honorable mentions to Food for the Gods and State of Slow Decay.

- I had a sign on my phone that said "SAY HI TO BJORN FOR ME" in all-caps, and I held it out toward the stage near the end of the show. Liam noticed it and came over to the part of the stage nearest to me to read it, then he turned around and waved to Bjorn. Mission accomplished.

If you like '00s and '10s In Flames, and/or you like Foregone, go see them on this tour. Highly recommended.

Where did you fly into Maine from? Glad you enjoyed the show, man. If there had to be only one 90's song, I'm just happy it wasn't Graveland or The Hive. Also always nice to see Bullet Ride in the set.

Yesssss, hoping In The Dark sticks around until Glasgow in October. How did it sound? It had the most old-school harsh vocals of any song on Foregone (probably of any modern In Flames song, for my money, anyway) and nowadays Anders actually tends to be more guttural live, even on songs that have mid-range or high screams in their studio recordings. I have my fingers crossed for Worlds Within the Margin levels of gnarliness.

Also, Bullet Ride? Nice!

Glad you had a great time, and that the performance was the best you've seen. I feel like in recent years, they've really hit new heights as a live act. Long may it continue!

@The Grayfox - I'm from the area, so no actual flying necessary. Was just being silly. And yeah, Paralyzed has always been a favorite of mine. Bjorn just destroyed the solo (in a good way). I was literally laughing at how good it was. They did great with Bullet Ride, too. Technically it was the Clayman 2020 version with the clean singing and whatnot (though the Clayman 2020 version is just a studio rendition of how they'd been playing it live). Of course, it sounds fantastic when it's actually live and not with neutered studio production.

@GraemeSinclair In the Dark sounded great. I always imagined it would be a bit dull and plodding live, but that wasn't the case here. IIRC Anders did quite well with the vocals on that one, despite forgetting some of the lyrics. It was cool hearing the crowd sing the chorus along with him. Early in the show Anders hit some high screams that genuinely surprised me. Chatter between songs confirmed that Foregone was very well-received by this crowd (lots of "their new album is incredible" and "their new one is their best in 20 years", etc). But yeah, performance-wise this was the tightest I've seen them. Lots of genuine energy. You could tell they were having a blast.

It's cool that they played Coerced Coexistence and they did a good job (except the cleans, but Anders tried at least). Kind of sucks seeing the band as more of an IF tribute with Anders & Bjorn plus random others though. Has obviously been that way for a while, but eh, it just feels wrong for me when I watch that. Almost like a cover band. Niclas was at least still part of the band's history, in that he played live with them in the 90s and was very much a part of the Gothenberg scene. Absolutely nothing against Broderick who is a cool enough guy and does a solid job, but he has nothing to do with the classic Swedish MDM scene. Neither do Tanner or Liam. Both are again perfectly good at what they do, but the whole thing just feels off to me nowadays.

This live era really is night and day in comparison to their sets 10 or so years ago. They seem way more comfortable with dipping into their back catalogue and way better at capturing the sound of those records now than they were all the way through the 2000s.

I'm really excited to see them in October (although I don't want to jinx it in case they go back to a set of predominantly ASOP, Siren Charms and Battles).

Had to wait a while for this to surface, it seems that not many concertgoers from the first shows of this tour were too bothered with taking videos for YouTube (fair play to them if they were enjoying the moment).

It sounds great, and definitely not pedestrian. It has energy and the crowd seem really into it. I didn't realise the solo at the end went back and forth more than once, I thought the beginning was all Chris and then Björn came in with the Clayman throwback triumphant section at the end. I wish they'd been able to harmonise the last part like on the album, but that's a very minor nitpick. Anders dropping Whoracle growls throughout was everything I'd hoped it would be and although the clean vocals were definitely strained, I'd say he didn't do too badly overall, and the crowd singing along to the chorus definitely helped make it sound impactful.

They should record AND be in the moment simultaneously, like I do! But maybe that skill comes with experience. I just hold my camera up horizontally with my right hand while I watch the actual show from the front row.

Yeah, I think that song sounds great live, even more so when you're actually there. That Clayman-esque solo near the end of the bridge gives me nostalgia for when I was first getting into these guys. Anders sounded better at the show I was at, but I think he did fine here.

Cool to see IF pull out Coerced Coexistence, it's been a long time for that one. At first I was like "is Anders wearing a Creeping Death shirt?" and then I remembered that they're opening for IF, so that's probably why. Gatecreeper too. Interesting because I would've thought this would be an excellent tour to play more old shit than usual based on those openers, but alas.

I'm not a drummer, so some of the more technical aspects were a little bit over my head, but I found this a pretty cool insight into how the band functions on tour and how it's been for someone coming into an act with such a beloved back catalogue. Apparently Anders chooses the setlist himself and the others prefer it that way, but I know if I was in his position, I'd definitely be like "Can we play this song?" "How about this one?" "Guys... Here's an idea, what about Biosphere?"

Interesting that he called The Mirror's Truth, Everything's Gone and Take This Life "their three hardest songs". I wonder if he still thinks that after having played December Flower and Coerced Coexistence.

I'm not surprised that Anders picks the setlists since he's been the most vocal over the years about crowd reaction to songs they play live, which is why at least 60-70% of their setlists are singles/videos. It also explains why Anders' favorite IF songs are constantly in the set.

As a drummer, I've found that the easiest stuff to play drum-wise is the early stuff. The Jester Race and Whoracle because Bjorn played pretty basic stuff and Colony because I'm almost entirely convinced Bjorn wrote all the drum parts and either played them or Daniel played exactly what Bjorn mapped out for him because it's practically the same style as the TJR/Whoracle and then on Clayman, there is an dramatic shift and change in drumming style. Material from those three albums is basically what I played when I first started; Moonshield, Gyroscope, Ordinary Story were some of the first songs I learned. What I also learned is that you don't need fancy drumming for songs to be good and those early albums are a prime example. Most metal drumming is over the top, show-offy bullshit that is for the most part unnecessary.

Pretty cool video and Tanner comes off as a likeable dude, I don't think I've ever watched anything like this that featured him until now. I thought the bit about him lying about being able to pull off the few faster songs for his audition was also really interesting.
